Scourge and Cyclonus

I am wondering...who can tell me just who Cyclonus and Scourge were before transformation by Unicron?

I am under the assumption that Scourge was Thundercracker and Cyclonus was Bombshell?

Any ideas? :tfgrin

Either Kickback or Shrapnel (I forget) became Scourge.

And the following is based on my frame-by-frame viewing of the shot on my DVD:

Bombshell (foreground) and Thundercracker (background) both appear to become Cyclonus (artist/animator screw-up). As Unicron says, "The warrior, Cyclonus--", the one in the foreground (formerly Bombshell) transforms and flies toward the right, along the bottom of the frame. The camera pans right, following him. As Unicron finishes, "--and his armada.", the 'other Cyclonus' (formerly Thundercracker) and the sweeps fly in from the left to join him (Bombshell/Cyclonus).

Despite the animator mistake, Bombshell became Cyclonus, even though it would logically make more sense for it to have been Thundercracker.

I believe they say in the movie that the Unicrons are made out of the parts of all the dead decepticons that were thrown out of Astrotrain, so it isn't necessarily a direct conversion from any one decepticon.

It is, as far as Scourge and Cyclonus, because they specifically show those two being converted, just as they specifically show Megatron converted into Galvatron.

Granted, that Shrapnel and Bombshell could have been Insecticon clones (but that's debatable too, since each clone seems to have had the "original" Insecticons' memories and personalities, and it's even possible--probably likely--that the Insecticons found in the rain-forest by Megatron in "A Plague of Insecticons" (I think that was the title) were not the originals, but merely cloned 'decendants'), but regardless, Shrapnel became Scourge while the Decepticon and Insecticon bodies around him became Sweeps, and (again, despite the animators' mess-up) Bombshell became Cyclonus while Thundercracker became one of the "armada".

The conversions aren't just talked about, they are specifically shown on-screen as they happened.

You see I dont think that Shrapnel became Scourge, because during the transformation you see Thundercracker between two insecticons (Shrapnel and Kickback) when being transformed into Scourge.

one of the seekers was in the background when Shrapnel became Scourge "...Scourge, and the Sweeps...", one was behind Bombshell when he became Cyclonus.

Now I gotta watch it AGAIN to remember which seeker was which, but either way, Scourge and Cyclonus were both created from Insecticons.

Thundercracker became Scourge, Skywarp became Cyclonus, and the Insecticons became the Sweeps. I know we see two Cyclonuses, but I think that was an animator mistake.

I just watched the scene where the transformation took place and it is Thundercracker that becomes Scourge...no doubt about it...Bombshell does become Cyclonus with Skywarp in the background becoming the Cyclonus armada.

Thundercracker became Scourge, Skywarp became Cyclonus, and the Insecticons became the Sweeps.  I know we see two Cyclonuses, but I think that was an animator mistake.

As I already explained, Bombshell was in the foreground. The seeker (Skywarp, I guess.. I need to rewatch it for that) was in the background. As Unicron said "Cyclonus--" Bombshell and the seeker both transmuted into what appeared to be Cyclonus, BUT(!), the Cyclonus in the -foreground- (formerly Bombshell) took off across the bottom of the frame, and the camera followed -him- as Unicron finished with "--and his armada.", at which point several other ships, including the 'Cyclonus' who was in the background of the previous frame (formerly Skywarp) join in behind him (Bombshell/Cyclonus) from the left.

This simple camera pan shows that the Cyclonus in the foreground (Bombshell) was the one that actually -was- Cyclonus.

I think the only reason anyone thinks that Skywarp was Cyclonus is that the prefer that idea to a 'lowly Insecticon' being transformed into Galvatron's second-in-command. (sure, I freely admit that comment is conjecture on my part, but I frame-by-framed the sequence to be sure I was seeing it right, and that's how the sequence progresses)

I just watched the scene where the transformation took place and it is Thundercracker that becomes Scourge...no doubt about it...Bombshell does become Cyclonus with Skywarp in the background becoming the Cyclonus armada.

Ok. Guess I had T-cracker and Shrapnel backwards. But, then, I was concentrating on the Cyclonus thing, so.. :tfgrin
