I've realized the horrible truth about the G1 cartoon.

HAHAHAHAHA

at least they animated a full episode EVER with Transformers instead of filling it with stock animation

yeah you got me there but the writing was freaking top notched... just ask beast wars :tflaugh

James Cameron directed both The Terminator and Titanic

Beast Wars was pretty lighthearted at times, too. That show is better than most shows ever to air in primetime.

if you were to compair the overall tone of the G1 cartoon to that of other 1980's cartoons such as GI Joe and He-Man, you'd realize that the G1 cartoon was written to be a comedy cartoon like Loony Toons. while GI Joe and He-Man had semi serious undertones, G1 was meant to be silly and goofy :guh

Ah, boy. :roll

Maybe you never noticed but every cartoon in the mid 80s was silly and campy as hell. Are you honestly going to argue that shows like GIjoe, and heaven forbid Masters of the Universe were more serious than now. Newsflash for those who yet don't know they were all 30 minute toy advertisments. Each and everyone of them. As for arguing the tone, it was all stereotypical good guys/fighting bad guys for whatever reason. GIjoe did it as American patriots fighting terrorists, Masters of the Universe to my understanding (never actually watched it once) was Heman fighting the forces of evil in a fairytale setting. Transformers was basically GIjoe only with a subtle scifi twist and instead of human characters, transforming robots. The only real difference if anything is some of these comercialtoons were animated better than others.

But seriously i feel like Hornet's sole purpose at times is to rile people up my making the most extremely unfounded opinions he possibly can and the touting them as if they were fact.

anyway - as i have said before - Re-watching both the "Best of" heman set and the TF MTMTE/S1 - AS AN ADULT - i enjoyed the HeMan stuff more. And the reason being (exactly the opposite of what Hornet says) He-Man had a level of Camp that is refreshing now. and helps to fend off the rolly eyes dated moments of it.

where as those same moment in TFs are played straight so its like WTF?

EDIT - also the argument about the animation doesnt fly because as kids that was a non-issue.

i would wager that Adam never spoke with Teela's voice and Skeletor never showed up in RamMan's paintscheme.

Nor was battle cat ever randomly larger than Castle Greyskull for a scene.

Hunter

why does that change anything? Did you have no discernment at all until you hit puberty? I watched a bunch of Hanna Barbera cartoons when I was a kid, and I could always tell how they were different from Bugs Bunny etc. in that regard. And I thought it was cheap then too.

but I loved the Flintstones and Scooby-Doo. They weren't exactly action shows so the lack of variation in the animation didn't hurt the show that much.

Ah, boy. :roll

at least GI Joe and He-Man had consistent animation and a coherent plot. you can tell that no one at Sunbow took Transformers seriously due to the lax standards when it came to quality.
