MP Starscream color comfirmed

Recommended Posts

If Hasbro doesn't show anything by BotCon, I'm gonna be buying this guy.

True dat.  When is Botcon, anyway?  That's probably when I'll make my decision, once and for all (unless it happens to be after MPSS's release date, of course).

they are around the same time i believe

I think the answer lies in your question, they didn't make a "G1 MP Starscream", they made an "MP Starscream".

I don't think anyone can say that with certainty until it's been released and the booklet has been translated.

I know what you're saying, but unless we know for sure that the person writing the booklet and the person/people designing the figure were working hand in hand, I don't know how meaningful that would be.

My point isn't about that, though. It comes back to what I personally understand "being a G1 fan" to mean. To my mind, G1 Starscream was a toy from the 1980's. Period. There have been a lot of homages to the character since that point (starting as far back as G2, depending on how you interpret the intent of that line), but by definition none of them are "G1" Starscream. They can't be. G1 is finished, done with, over. It has been for a long time.

So when I see this figure, and I see the series it's being released in, I think to myself, "this is Masterpiece Starscream". Not "G1 Starscream". To be sure, part of being an MP figure (so far, anyway) is a verrrry strong connection to the G1 toys & cartoon, but MP Starscream simply isn't G1 Starscream, in the same way that MP Convoy isn't G1 Convoy. And I mean that as literally as possible.

To me, that's what G1 purism is about. Recognizing the difference between G1 itself and homages to G1. G1 is where my Transformers nostalgia comes from. That's what's meaningful to me. I'm not one of those fans who's constantly looking to replace every G1 figure they own with a newer, cooler version. I can appreciate MP Starscream and MP Convoy for what they are, but they will never replace, or be as cool as, their G1 counterparts. At least not to me. It's just not possible for it to happen, by definition, as these are new products that weren't around when I was discovering Transformers back in the 1980's.

The point of all this is that this mindset changes my expectations for MP figures (or Alt/BT figures, or Classics, or Titaniums, or anything else). Yeah it's totally great that Takara is producing these figures; they're awesome and it demonstrates a lot of love for the fans. But it's not like I'm looking for the MPs to fill a void in my G1 luv or anything -- they can't. Anything HasTak has done post-G1 has been icing on the cake to me. Bonus material. So to have MP Starscream colored differently than his G1 counterpart... it really doesn't matter to me. They could make him pink and green with purple stripes for all I care. Now I might not want to get him if he were released in those colors, but so what? So I don't get it. I haven't lost anything.

And to briefly address I.S.T.'s point about ghey loser Geewun fanboys... :P to *me*, the only G1 fanboys who annoy me are the ones who expect EVERYTHING post-G1 to mimic G1 as much as possible. I don't understand the mindset personally, as you can probably guess by now. It's not like any post-G1 toy could ever live up to the originals... yes of course G1 toys are old and outdated, but it was those (now) old and outdated toys that I fell in love with, not their latter-day homages. So yeah, it's cool to see Classics Bumblebee or Titanium Scourge or whatever else, but those toys weren't around in the 80's.

I dunno, this might make no sense at all to some fans. That's cool. But it's this mindset that's made me one of those crazy Star Wars fans who clamored for the original movies to be released on DVD. :D Imagine if Hasbro took away every G1 Prime and replaced it with something else and said "oh this is the real G1 Prime, that other thing wasn't really it". Well of course you'd want the original back. Why? Because that's the one that matters to you. That's the one that you grew up with. So hopefully that helps to illustrate what I'm talking about a bit more.

wow I'm wordy on Saturday mornings :eek

But I think part of the reason I'm okay with the color change is the already discussed-to-death "realism" in the alt mode

And I still fail to see how the proposed colors are any more realistic than the G1 scheme.  Please clue the rest of us in here? :tfhuh

NOW THAT I CAN POST..i see where getting thundercraker huh..cause those are not starscreams colors. im fine with that as lond as they change the name on the box

Yeah, because brain hemorages result from the box art not matching the toy.

Give it a rest people, it's just a toy. if you want different colors, paint the stupid thing different colors! If "thundercracker" colors turn you off from buying a "starscream" toy, then you have issues. If this thing isn't G1 enough for you... buy friggin' G1 starscream! Have you ever thought of that?

those are the ghey loser Geewuners I was talking about.

and yes, you really are. you should quit that, you know.

*Says the man who wrote a 2,000 word semi-essay giving a brief overview of the various transformer lines on another forum. cut short, no less.*

So Much bad feeling in here at the moment!!!! why are G1 fans Ghey?? because they like a specific aspect of a toy???

In my opinion Armada was an abomination that produced a couple of good figures but overall the tranformation on the figures was worse than G1 (scavenger anyone?)

Maybe thats why some people like G1 rather than some and I mean SOME not all of the new product that is being released these days.

I love G1 but almost love beast wars just as much its just I am really not keen on anything that followed apart from the Alts and am looking to the movie to fix it a bit.

just what the hell was the artist smoking when he developed mpstarscreams colorscheme.

you ask me it would look exactly like thundercracker with a slight bit of color tweaking.

that so called grey borderlines on a shade of ble people.

anyone else see the resemblance there.

It's not truth but oversimplified garbage.

They pushed this as G1 era Starscream.

That's why his G1ness came into it.

It'd actually be pretty stupid not to.

If on the other hand they pushed it as a Starscream, or Alternators/Binaltech Starscream (as originally intended) or classics Starscream, or not sold many of us on the original prototype, his G1 accuracy wouldn't have come up.
