MP Starscream color comfirmed

meh, maybe i'm wrong, but i don't see how you can blam tak/tomy for everybody elses' assumations

[/rant]

Avoiding the usual arguments that make some cry, here's a good reason it's Takara's fault everyone expected a G1 accurate Masterpiece again:

Starscream was designed to be G1 accurate, just like people "assumed".

His alt mode was designed to be "passable" as opposed to realistic, just like everyone "assumed".

He delivered everything MP Prime did in terms of design emphais and G1 "slavery", just like everyone "assumed".

And Takara seemed satisfied enough with the result to the point they released all of these images up to and including the prototype, which doesn't usually differ from the finished product all that much (visual effects of colur and material aside).

No, I don't think people assumed, they saw what was right in front of their eyes.

Rather, the changes were implimented after the fact, after it was publically unveiled.

Whatever else they are, they are not what this figure was originally intended to be.

If they were, it would have been in the designs.

Stating that it was supposed to be more G1 than this is not making assumptions and spouting opinion like fact, it is stating that (as the images prove) that it was supposed to be more G1.

Takara changed it at the eleventh hour, shifted the emphaiss from G1 to realsim, and that's their right, it's their toy.

But it's our right to point out what it was supposed to be according to even them, complain that we were mislead, voice our unhappiness with that and make it known we still want Trasnformers (including Starscream) that had the empahsis the Masterpiece line had up until the second version of Starscream.

meh, the only ss with any color was the magazine peice and i'm sure that was speculation on the magazine's part.  also, call me blind as a bat, but the only changes to the mould are realy small, and we've already heard the Starscreaming about them, so everybody's Starscreaming about the colors.  colors that we've only seen from a SMALL, DARK, GRAINY, POORLY TAKEN magazine scan.  the mould is still g1 in spirit, only takara/tomy has changed it to fit whatever criteria they plan on meeting.  anywho, as i've said, the g1 was all assumptions.  i did say that takara/tomy mislead everybody from what they included in THS02, but meh.  the colors, imo, will look better when we see some real pics, and not just blurry magazine scans.  maybe it's just wishful thinking on my part, but i doubt it being so ugly.  as far as shifting the emphasis from bot to alt, i think it's more of a give and take thing.  a high ranking engineer sat down and looked at the first proto and said "you know if we do this, this, and this, not only does it not change the bot all that much but it makes the jet more realistic".  not only that but i seem to remember hearing quite a few Starscream fits about the colors not being realistic so that, apparantly, is important to some collectors.  they've gotta appeal to more than just g1 fans.

Have to keep this short.

1. I wasn't talking about colours. We never saw the original in colour (as a proto), I was talking about design.

2. The changes aren't small. They've made many who didn't want the mold want it, and many who did want it not want it.

Opinion shave become much more extreme one way or the other.

That says they're pretty significant to me.

3. They do have to appeal to more than just G1 fans, you're right.

But they also have to appeal to more than realism fans too.

Remember, without hyper realism desire, there was nothing wrong with the first mold in the first place, so it's still specialist, just as different aspect.

Screamers Pic is on the front page again.

I know this Smokescreen statement is a joke and all but I wanted to say, When I saw that they were making G1 characters into real life vehicles, w/interiors, fully posable robot modes and extreme g1 likeness, I was floored. I never even cared that he wasn't a Datsun (or how ever it's spelled). When I saw the MP Prime proto..........I had to smack myself to believe it was real and I wasn't just on fantasy inducing drugs.

Okay, a few points, real quick-like:

One: All of these changes were made after most of us had already preordered, being sold on the original figure.  This is something to keep in mind.

Two: When the first proto came out everyone was singing the jet mode's praises, saying things like "Wow!  I can't believe it turns into a robot!  It's so realistic!" etc, and now everyone acts like the first jet was crap.  I personally can't even tell a difference, other than the bottom half being *slightly* smoother, but I'm open to enlightenment.

Finally, to whoever said they didn't like the Viper mold, I don't know anyone who does, so don't feel bad.  It was an awful choice for Sideswipe and only looks halfway decent after major modifications.

Very well said sir. I esp like the part about most of the preorders being placed based on the images of the first prototype. That speaks a lot for its appeal.

Actually there are significant improvements to the jet mode, particularly along the sides and the bottom of the jet. Considering that these are traditional weak points for jetformers, seeing Takara revisit those sections made me happy.

And FWIW My Alt/BT Sunstreaker hybrid is one of my favorite TFs ever. I love the Viper mold and I never saw why everyone hated it so much.

Not that I want to get into THAT again.

But anyway..... can we pleeeeeeeease move on from this tired line of discussion? It eats my soul to have to read post after post of the same thing over and over again. Okay, we get that Starscream didn't look like this at first, and all that that implies. I think everybody in the fandom gets that by now. Could we talk about something else related to the figure?

Please?

You know, I actually like Sunstreaker too, which is odd considering my distate for Sideswipe.  Maybe it's just Sideswipe I don't like in the mold.

How exactly did you hybridize yours?  Give the BT the arm parts from the Alt?  'Cause I had considered doing the same myself, if I ever wanted to shell out $50+ for another Sunstreaker, that is.
