NEED HELP WITH PARENTS

Recommended Posts

I'm 27 and my family isn't bothered by my collecting TF's, at least it's better than destroying the body with drink and drugs.  Since I live alone, then the collection doesn't bother anyone, I just keep it in my living room.  As far as my parents are concerned, as long as I don't go spending my money on anything that's damaging to my health, then I'm entitled to collect something as a hobby.  Pity it's not safe to collect them in my area, but eh, at least I'll still have my liver in good health.

1. there's probably no use explaining to ur parents why you collect them or what they mean to u.

2. you really need disposable income comming from a job

3. move out

if anthing, if you do quit collecting to pursuit getting your own place or have any financial problems... just remember you can always find the TF u missed out on later... just for a price

...at least it's better than destroying the body with drink and drugs.

i forgot to mention that... just tell em its a better hobby than doing this stuff! and if you do plan on selling your stuff you could make some profit out of it... its a win win situation  :thumb

my friend who has the same problem at 25 "collects to invest in his future." he's the type that keeps all his stuff misb. and plans to sell a few later...but hey, who's to say what you do with your collection? enjoy your collection whichever way that is you do.

i dont think its fair that your spending your folks money. if ur not interested in working and your getting allowance... maybe you could change how many transformers you come home with. instead of 1 a week, make it 1 a month.. that way you can save cash... you really need to budget.

Wasn't this topic locked earlier?

*Hopes MM's parents have not read page 3 of this thread :redface *

That's what I was wondering. Oh and to contribute to the topic slightly, I am an attorney w/ almost 600 TFs in my collection, but I moved out when I was 18 to go to college and whatnot so I was not quite in the same situation. I do tend to agree w/ most of the others are saying though, move out, get a job, pay the bills and whatever you have left over, spend on whatever you want, including TFs.

EDIT: Oh I don't drink, smoke, or do drugs and I never have, so most of my spare $$ goes towards TFs. I also own a house (which my parents helped me pay the downpayment on, thereby saving me tons on the monthly payments).

MM if you have that kind of arrangement w/ your parents that is great, you sound like you have good reasons for living there, but there still is a lot to be said for moving out and being responsible for yourself, even if your parents are still helping you out.

collects to invest in his future

Is that what most TF fans do with their collections?  Just collect them as a future investment?  I don't know why I'm collecting them, I do know though that they're not an investment, I've no intention on selling them.  Well, not that I know of at current.

Tony.

i know a guy who buys 3 of everything... 1 to sell, 1 to keep and 1 to play with... i open every transformer i can get my hands on (there goes the value)

but i think the value is something that the consumer puts on the toy not its pure market value. i guess the real question is what are transformers worth to you and how far are you willing to go to get them and at what cost. i've limited my ollection to 1 every two months... i've come back recently after finding mirage *see Action Pose thread*

personally i collect to enjoy. but like i mentioned earlier... at my own expense. my friend mr misb enjoys his collection a different way, seeing his transformers appreciating in value in thier alternate jail modes.  :tflaugh

If his intention is to have the one to keep as an investment, he'd better be sure its value nets him a profit that exceeds what he paid for all three to begin with.  And I would imagine the likelihood of that is low unless he's gonna wait decades from now.

this thread and it's original poster are ridiculous.  If i had to hazard a guess, i would say that there must be something mentally deficient about Masterminicon and that's why he has to live at home, only have a part time job paying only a cell phone bill, and can't drive a car.  This is not meant as a flame but i feel that we are not getting the whole truth nor will any thing we say or do effect your folks decision.

I base my observations on the reasons listed above and on the fact that reading your posts imparts the feeling of reading those of a 14-15 year oldd (no offense X-bob) and so i can not take you seriously.

i couldn't agree more. *he can do this with marvel legends but thats another story*  :tftongue

I mean, for example, a gift arrived today via ups.  I don't know what it is.  All I know is it's heavy, almost as tall as me, and a bday gift for me.

A girlfriend?  :tflaugh1

Seriously though, I only got back into TF's a couple of years ago. I spent all my money before then (ages 16-27) on drink, drugs, women and court fines. At your age (21?) I joined the Army, I now (29) have a missus who I'm gonna marry as soon as I get out of the Army, a house, a car, almost all my debts clear and I feel alot better with my life now. It's not the TF's making my life better, but they're a much better passtime than my previous ones!

If the hobby becomes an obsession though, get out for a while & come back refreshed!
