I officially quit the retail stores

Recommended Posts

Of course, I say the same thing about Marvel Legends...which I think could be a perpetually running toyline if major characters like Magneto were available every other year instead of 2 months in 2003.  All they'd have to do is sculpt 100-200 figures and cycle through them in the space of half a decade over and over.  It might even get kids back into comics, since nobody's bothered with a decent Marvel universe show since Spiderman ended in the 90s.

A- I think he meant that the shelf used for mainline toys would be a different shelf than alts or SWTFs or BWs. Different lines - different space alotments.  Sure E-Ironhide would prevent you from getting CD-Redalert. But it shouldnt affect the ordering of Alternators or Barbie dolls for example.

B- Marvel ledgends or no - you havent been paying attention to how many magneto figures have be produced in the last 5-10 years have you? I think we are faring much better than a re-release every two years.

Seriously, I think that my local stores intentionally overstock with old crap just to frustrate me. And to make it worse, today a little kid at a store yells... YAY!!!!! ENERGON IRONHIDE!!!!!!! And he dove for it like he found Primus (with head) or something.

lol @ you quitting shopping in stores because of a child liking a TF with a kiddie design :roll  :tflaugh

lol @ Lazerblast for not paying attention to the WHOLE reason (ie: overstock of old stuff) that I am quitting stores, which literally was contained in the rest of the frikkin' thread. Selective reading is such a wonderful trait.  :roll

the same crap is happening with my area. Nothing has been restocked for months. If it weren't for the classics coming up, I'd give up collecting tf's.

Here, Alternators sit on the shelves where Megas and Ultras are stocked.  This is the same space BW 10th and Commemorative Series occupied as well.  Believe me, I haven't seen a store as organized as that 1983 photo on the Allspark since about 1988.  Besides...no matter how many sublines TransFormers split into, the people ordering the toys often see just TransFormers.  We can blame Universe and the last four main lines that shoved beasts and reissues in with new vehicular product for that just as much as I-don't-collect ignorance.

Let's see, 10 years puts us back at 1996-1997.  That gives us:

1.  Marvel Legends - series 3

2.  X-Men Evolution - series 3

3.  X2: X United - series 2

4.  X-Men: The Movie

5.  Famous Covers from 1999 limited edition (found this on eBay)

6.  X-Men Classic 2 (possibly a substitute for X3: The Last Stand)

7.  ML reissue, X-Men set (maskless Wolverine, ugly Rogue, lab coat Beast)

I don't know if that goes as far back as the tail end of either X-Men: The Animated Series or Marvel Universe 12".  Double checked that now and those were 1992 believe it or not.  It's certainly years after the push before that, which I believe was either Age of Apocolypse or Secret Wars (1984).  My list omits stupid items, such as bobbleheads and diecast statues - and the mini-ML figures Marvel's trying to push some sort of game with.

Of the seven I listed, only three are of the classic Magneto and one of those is a reissue of another.  The articulation on most of them is alright but it would've been a stronger argument pre-ML and most of them were short-packed.  I actually chose Magneto as my example because, numerous as six sounds, Hulk and Wolverine outnumber him by at least double or triple and Spiderman is easily over an order of magnitude higher.  Maybe I should've used Dr. Octopus or Apocolypse, with their whopping three or four?  The point is there are dozens of characters that haven't had a figure since the 1980s and if you missed their shortpacking in a 6-week assortment of ML you won't get another chance for probably a decade.

Ultimately this does get back to TFs.  If Hasbro made a watchable show that could be viewed on an episode by episode basis and stuck with a slowly revolving group of characters for a couple years, they could have a longer shelf life and not be "forced" into repainting everything nine times to recoup an investment.  They're screwing themselves reinventing Optimus Prime every single year and trying to air a show almost a year after the toys for many of the characters have disappeared from shelves.

Speaking strictly of Alternators, they really screwed up with Tracks.  Shortpacking him (and Jazz) was stupid and waiting another year and a half to put him in another three assortments was just as stupid.  Not only has alot of the demand obviously died down, every dollar over twenty spent on eBay is a dollar that maybe didn't go to the dozen figures that came after him.  And, like a set of dominoes, every 2006 Tracks that sits stalls a Mirage or Rumble, just as Swindle/Windcharger/Ravage stalled Shockwave and Wheeljack.  I do think come five or so years from now the first set of Alternators would probably do well, though the car companies and their licensing may be difficult, however.

Retarded assortments and distribution are costing Hasbro and your favorite big box retailer sales each and every day.

Quit being immature and take what I say seriously. I didn't post it to hear crap from you.

Actually I almost completely agree with everything you said except for the Magneto/DocOk rant.... but whatever. In terms of how many multiples of Marvel Figures are released - the power of Meh compels me.

I thought there was this big WalMart Vs Hasbro powwow about 6 months ago that was  supposed to clear up all the retarded Hasbro marketing up - apparently not.

Also - i have to revert to  my main point - if i was seeing tons of Rolly and Rico sitting there on the shelves - i understand - but my point has been that they indeed have been selling. what i dont understand is they sell out. and then weeks of blank shelves . and then a few more come in - sell - and then weeks of blank shelves. its not like i have ANY shelfwarmers in my area. just blank shelves.

BTW - i think its safe to say that the TRU's in So Cal have given up on Alts. I have not seen an Alt since Shockblast (at a TRU)- and there isnt even a spot/tag for them anymore.
