One Thing I'm Surprised No One Ever Retconned

Recommended Posts

wow that was ghey :tflaugh

anyway I always thought it was funny how guys like Warpath and Seaspray and even Brawn and Gears transformed into vehicles that were way bigger than Jazz or Bluestreak or Sideswipe etc.

you see, this was back in the 80's before "mass shifting" and other such internet fan-hive retcon gheyness was invented, and you just watched the show and played with the toys and stuff

Yea, on the subject of mass shifting gheyness, if the robot mode were to scale with the vehicle mode then even the first year Minibots would be among the taller Autobots.

Anyway - the way I remember it (the correct answer) is that Micro Machines were big sellers back in the day and Hasbro wanted a piece of the pie.

Well, that was the commercial reason for why the toys were made. As far as G1 canon is concerned, the Micromaster technology was developed on Cybertron as a means of fuel conservation. This technology would ultimately lead to the "Maximal Upgrade" after the end of the Great War where all Transformers were effectively shrunken down to Micromaster size. Hence why BW Megatron referred to the G1 Transformers as "archaic Energon guzzlers" in The Agenda. ;)

Wasn't "mass shifting" just a term made to appease those killjoys who endlessly insist on some sort of physics being applied to these fantastical characters that failed?

faux science Retcons to crappy 80's TV shows>j00

The only reasoning I can find behind the minibots is it gave parents a cheepie option oposed to buying larger deluxe sized figs or having to resort to KO Gobots.

With the size deduction in the Micromaster line you would've thought it would have done a lot better than it did

Primal-Convoy: officially the mini-bots were never part of any intentional scheme to "downsize" the Transformers. They were simply a variant that existed. I mean, compared to TFs like Omega Supreme, TFs the size of Ultra Magnus would appear "downsized." The fact is that TF sizes varied greatly. In official G1 canon, the only time the TFs intentionally reduced their size to make themselves more fuel efficient was when they created Micromasters. Otherwise the Minibots aren't substantially any more or less fuel efficient than any other Transformer.

Thats right. what i meant was that the technology for "smaller" tfs already existed.  When the Maximals and other smaller Tfrs were intentionally created, the tech used was taken from or based upon technology already in existance.

I especially think older technology used in gestaults and in how the tape bots linked with blaster et al contributed a lot to present day maximal and minicon/micromaster technology.

Nothing is created in a vaccume, as they say..except, perhaps, Hoovers.

and no, i dont link with my tfs at beddy by by time.  although i have a few next to the bed..due to lack of space in Japan.

They keep the cockroaches away u see.

Retcon makes baby GZ cry.

Did you know that the first TF we ever see in the 80's cartoon is Primus? It just took 20+ years for the toy to be made...
