No Die-Cast for KISS Convoy?

Recommended Posts

I really have just about had it with Tomy and their attempts to screw Transfans out of excessive amounts of cash.

you sound like Tomy is making a conscious effort to appeal to both asian and american transfans. i think it's more likely that Tomy is concentrating mostly on the asian market with the american market being a secondary afterthout. AFAIK, it's not unusual for asian transfans to drop this much money on a single item. and it's not just TF's, plenty of collector oriented japanese toylines tend to have expensive price tags.

I doubt too many fans in Asia are going to be suckered into buying Mp04.

I've watched plenty of auctions on Yahoo JP, and there's plenty of collectors in Japan who aren't rabid completists.

Tomy could have made it clear from the very start that Kiss Convoy has no diecast, they knew very well that diecast content would be assumed and accpeted orders based on that assumption.

I guess what ticks me off really is that that neither Hasbro nor Tomy found a happy medium with this mold.

Hasbro tried to pass it off as a 'Value size' Alt  and then cut corners everywhere, when a $25.00 version could have had consistently tight joints, a correcly fitting hood and better paint work.

A $25.00 version would've sold fine too.

Tomy on the other hand did create the $25 version, they added a bunch of stuff the value of which is questionable, and increased the price by a very large amount.

I think Frank best sums up how i feel about this;

(yes i know it's just a toy)

Wow.  I still prefer his color scheme to the Alt version, but if there's no diecast it's cheaper to paint the Alt version myself.  I don't give two sh*ts about the surfboard and girlie fig anyway, I just wanted a diecast version of this mold to make Ironhide out of...  Oh well.  Win some, lose some.  And who knows, this info may not be entirely accurate.

Oh, and the actress is TOTALLY hot. :luv

You put it absolutely perfectly. I couldn't have explained it better myself. Now, I am really off to cancel my pre-order w/ BBTS, for real this time.

Wow, I remeber when what seemed like nearly everyone thought Takara was the bees, and Hasbro wasn't. Say, each companies have their faults, I guess it is becoming that Takara isn't the fanboys wet dream anymore. And that is a hard pill to swollow.

I guess this whole KISS is only to make more money and introduce more people to transformers, by including a niche market in with the Transformers one. Can't win 'em all.

Now that is unfair.  :tfmad Wasn't going to import him anyway but that is one serious blow to the BT collectors. Guess all those painted aps came with a heavy price. Also the added surfboard/sword and sexually confused adolesent aren't nearly enough to warrant what this thing costs. :tdown

I agree totally Loki. I just cancelled my preorder right before I came to the boards. What a freaking rip off. $60+ for a plastic, painted version of a mold I don't even like that much, plus some weird ass CD and creepy girl-thing.

Well, I was torn about buying this one anyway, they just made it sooooo much easier for. Oh and I am very glad they at least bothered to announce this before the release. I would have been pissed to excect and pay for die-cast and get plastic.

I have the feeling we'll be seeing Convoy and his Magical Tickle Feather of Doom (with sidekick Auntie Crotchshot) on clearance within 6 months of release if they keep the original price tag.

I can deal with that.

Seems kind of crazy.  "We're having trouble selling our toys."  "I know, we'll lower quality and raise prices!"

I really hope that this news turns out to be false.  If I had to choose between paint and diecast, I would choose paint, but is was already hard to justify the cost delta between BT and Alt.  At that price, Diecast is must.
