Alternator Megatron????

Recommended Posts

I just have the feeling that an "Alt" Megatron is going to remain at the same price-point.  Otherwise, they probably would have done "Alt OP" as a larger vehicle.

But...Alt Prime wasn't meant to be Prime. Rumor has it that it was meant to be Ironhide (with a different head) that became Prime because Takara didn't want to release larger alts (which would be at higher price point) unless it was a recognizable character like Prime. Hasbro went along and it became Prime.

But Takara seems to have withdrawn somewhat from the alt line, so what's to stop Hasbro from introducing larger vehicles and expending on the concept of the line by introducing other kind of vehicles?

Alt's are getting stale. I love the line and have them all (with exception of Swerve  :tfsad). But I find I'm not that interested anymore: a new alt and look it's a car that transforms into a robot :redface The line needs to expand and grow, become more varied.

As already pointed out, there was a rumor about alt Jets and now we have MP Starscream. Starscream who, unlike Prime, also transforms into a believable accurate jet. Meaning Hasbro could release him without much trouble in the alt line. If this Megs design is for real, it would fit in with that concept. Him being larger then alt Prime doesn't really matter, since Hasbro knows very well that most TF fans use 20th Prime.

I hope this is real and about 30 cm in robot mode.

Jebus this is getting out of hand.

Somebody Email Hasbro and get a confirmation on this already. :tflaugh

Rumoured also were alt jets which I think is what will happen with Starscream mold either this year or next. Wouldn't be surprised one bit if Megatron was about the same scale. :thumb

Hasbro's about as likely to release MP Starscream in the Alternators line as I am to sprout wings from my back and fly like a bird.

And BTW I believe that Alt Prime was changed from Ironhide because trucks don't sell in Japan and Takara was unwilling to release a Dodge Ram BT unless it were a character that would be a guaranteed seller (aka Convoy).

Which is one reason why Alt completists are destined to suffer and despair.

BTW I should also point out that while this design sketch is very fanwankish, it's not as completely fanwankish as it should be if it were truly "fan-made". For one thing, it's tan. For another thing, Megs has these funky doodads on the sides of his helmet that a GeeWun wanker wouldn't have added. For another thing, the tank cannon doesn't become the arm cannon, the engine does... and we're not even sure if it's an arm cannon or just a BFG. A fan-made drawing would leave no doubt about that. There's been no real indications that they would start deviating from what they've been doing for the past couple years, and in a business sense, it's unwise to deviate from a plan once you've got it in motion and it's making money.

Hasbro has been saying forever that they are interested in introducing different vehicles into the Alt line besides Cars. They said it as late as Botcon. The Alt Jet rumor is the same age as the Red Dodge Ram......Which is out right now.

How many times do I have to point this out....The line hasnt been 'just cars' for quite some time.  How does a Jeep Wrangler count as a car, and that was the 3rd or 4th one released.  The reason that there have been more cars is because there werent many truck/suv alt modes throughout geewun compared to sportscars. And with so many of todays trucks and suvs being crew cab, super cab, 6 doored behemoths, you'd pretty much be forced into another price point to use most of them.  With the new toyota FJ40 and rumors of a new ford bronco some of that may change, along with the tanks/jets/choppers for alts as well...

I think you're being deliberately obtuse. There's a huge difference between cars/light trucks and tanks & jets.

Maybe I should have said automobiles?

Yeah, I think "cars" meant "automobiles". To say that a Jeep is a radical departure from the Alternators line is, um, wrong.

Uhm... would it have been better if I had said "civilian passenger vehicles"?

Give me a break. "Cars" means pretty much anything you see on the road these days that isn't hauling freight.

Ferchristsake Ford lobbied congress hard to keep SUV's catagorized as a passenger vehicle and not a light truck!

Are you sure? Because there's a ton of safety standards that SUV makers *don't* have to meet since they're classified as light trucks.
