ALSO****** Has everyone forgotten about the rumors of a Jaguar coming down the pipes for the Alt. line, most likely for the form of Megatron!? There is *nothing* from the lines' past, present and rumored future to suggest that Has/Takomy will change the line to include non-real-world inspired, commercial automotive alt modes. There would be no reason to do it now, in the line's 3rd year of development, when we only *just* got a non-sportscar in Brodblast/Skids.

The Jag is also, as you point out, just a rumour so doesn't make this an obvious fake.

Nor does the fact that they have so far stuck with cars.

It wasn't pushed initially as a car only line and more and more people are getting bored solely with cars.

Also, right at the beginning they actually DID state that they were looking into military vehicles for the line too, so there is everything to suggest it's possible.

On top of that, the release of Masterpiece Starscream makes the timing just about right.

However, the feet straight away make me think it's not an Alt, they don't look even remotely articulate.

But it's still hard to say.

However, as Madhammer mentioned the 1/24 scale 40 cm height is pure speculation.  My bet is that he's closer to 1/48th scale and the same size as the rest of the Alts, which is probably why his transformation scheme doesn't appear particuarly complex.

First, there is no "IF" on The Original Posting, where the 1:24 and 40cm numbers are coming from. There is only "AT 1/24 IT'S ABOUT 40 CM TALL" and something in Chinese. I see no "If" wording there in any way, shape or form, but I don't read Chinese either.

How do you get that the transformation isn't that complex? I'm still wondering if it's possible. Where are the back halves of the treads? Looks to me like the lower hull folds in half to form the legs, with the treads wrapping, like what Hiro Prime said on TFW2005. The enginering of something like that is insane. Also, the arms are part of the turret. If this is an Alt, then the turret would have to rotate. Those two concepts together don't seem all that simple to me.

After blowing up the image and examining it, I'm thinking those structures on the lower portion of the tan chest area are the headlights, and the upper outsides of the chest are the front fenders. But it's not quite right, because if that were the case those fenders would be backward.

If you can figure out the transformation sequence of this thing, you're probably one up on everyone other than whoever designed it.

A 1:35th scale M1 would transform into a robot about a foot tall - which would make a nice companion piece to MP/20th OP.  I just have the feeling that an "Alt" Megatron is going to remain at the same price-point.  Otherwise, they probably would have done "Alt OP" as a larger vehicle.

If it were of a smaller scale than 1:35, then the tank mode would be sshorter than Grimlock in car mode. An Abrams is 26 ft long. At 1:35, that'd be just under 9 in. long, the same length as Grimmy. Any smaller and it'll look like a bloody toy tank in comparison to the rest of the line. And using the 40cm height for a 1:24 version of this (the only numbers we have at this time), that'd put a 1:35 version at 27.5cm tall, or about 10.75 in. tall, which would be about an inch or two taller than the rest of the alts and over an inch shorter than MPOP. Given MP Screamer's height, that could work as a companion piece to him, but I don't think they'd do a MP Megs as a tank without basing him closer on something that already existed, either in color to make him look more like the original show art or in shape to make him look more like one of the other million versions of Megs out there.

What this is, to me, is still a mystery wrapped in an enigma with a conundrum on the side. A beautiful mystery, but a mystery nonetheless.

(No, I'm not obsessed with this thing. No, not at all. Is that a new color sheet leaked over that way? *points into the distance, waits a beat and slinks off*)

Come on-- 3 years of just doing cars and then, for no reason at all they whip out a tank? I don't see it. They could have introduced an alternative into the line 2 years ago, but they didn't.

Now, keep in mind that the Alt. line has, with *every* release, been a name-brand-whoring line, and I have a feeling that Hasbro profits from each joint venture, as they are essentially selling commercials to a very impressionable target market. What would General Dynamics, which is *not* in any way affiliated with General Motors (whom, BTW only has one figure in the line in the form of Tracks), have to gain from Hasbro branding Megs as an Abrams, which is a trademarked name, and in turn, what would Hasbro have to gain from it besides introducing a tank into the line. Yes, people would buy a tank, but it's a missed marketing opportunity not to sell another advertisement space on one of thier toys.

I just have a real hard time imagineing this is part of the alt line. There's been no real indications that they would start deviating from what they've been doing for the past couple years, and in a business sense, it's unwise to deviate from a plan once you've got it in motion and it's making money.

This is not a hoax.

Whether it will see the light of day is another matter entirely.

Aaaaaaaand  you say this with such resolute conviction because...?

b/c he wants us all to cry like wee little girls

Like I said before, if Hasbro didn't intend to make this, I really hope they have rethought that after reading all the comments on all the boards.

Oh, and I want it to be similar in size to MP Prime. I would pay just as much for this as I will for MP SS.

Hey, it says Abrams MBT. Is MBT really part of the name of that tank? Or could it be Mega BT?

Now, keep in mind that the Alt. line has, with *every* release, been a name-brand-whoring line, and I have a feeling that Hasbro profits from each joint venture, as they are essentially selling commercials to a very impressionable target market.

Of course it's going to be mutually profitable, but I don't think it works as them selling advertisments, so much as they advertise in exchange for being able to use the car's likeness without getting sued.

And so a tank would be the same thing.

They get the rights to produce that likeness, and the company gets a fee for giving the licence (I'd assume) and it's name thrown around everywhere.

Every line has to evolve otherwise it gets stale and speaking of which, that has already begun in this line, it's getting stale.

It's always been a  joint venture between Hasbro and Takara, but Takara have stopped producing them, or at the very least been sticking anime figures to boost their appeal because it's flagging.

And in the west, things aren't much better.

The repaints are getting increasingly sloppy.

There was a time they could justify the cost of a new head mold. Even Swerve, who was barely released had his own head.

Yet we're getting no new head molds, and very little in the way of new body mods.

And over here, there's not been a new Alt since Overdrive.

That's not exactly what I'd call a successful line.

On top of that they're really running out of places to take the line.

I mean why do you think we've never had an Alt Starscream?

He's one of the most popular and iconic figures and yet there's no Alt.

The car just doesn't suit everyone, and with the release of MP Starscream, many are going to have enough realism to keep them happy.

The smart money would be to play on the interest he's going to generate and get the whole military thing going.

Of course, it may also be real, but not be an Alt.

Not everyone collects just Alts; some of us have no intention of buying Alt Prime as, official or no, we have our MP Prime.

So we're not exactly going to buy a Megatron that doesn't come up past his waist, something that will be dwarfed by MP Starscream.

As a 1:24 scale tank, he'll appeal to Alt collectors, those who want something to go with MP Prime and Screamer and those who mix the MPs and Alts as though they're one line.

If they don't call it an Alt, if they release it as a companion piece to Anni Prime, they can release an Alt Megs aimed at the collectors a year or so down the line as they did with Prime and probably will with Starscream, and boost their profits even further.

Either way, this is actually something that could really work in Hasbro's favour.

Main Battle Tank.

As always, very well said and I tend to agree w/ all of it. So glad I didn't have to write all that out though. Thanks for making my points for me. :thumb

Hasbro has been saying forever that they are interested in introducing different vehicles into the Alt line besides Cars. They said it as late as Botcon. The Alt Jet rumor is the same age as the Red Dodge Ram......Which is out right now.

Oh...forget what ever point I was trying to make. I'm not posting in this thread again till there's some proof of anything to post about. It's getting sickening.
