If the whole TF mythos could be retold...

A handgun is actually an excellent icon of evil,( lets face it it's easier for people to get a gun and shot someone than it is to get and drive a tank over them ).

:wtf

Logic failiure

Handgun. Dependent. Minor damage. Unimpressive.

Tank. Can easily solo. Massed damage. Highly impressive.

Sure, a Handgun can be used more easily, but a Tank is a whole lot more frikkin impressive and destructive, who the heck needs to run somone over when you have an MG remote attached to the turret and a frakking great battle cannon that can pierce all know armour?

Handgun. or the English Challanger II Main battle tank

I mean... C'mon?!

yeah, but whats cooler in socieyt these days and more common a tank or a hand gun on the street?  oooopps shouldnt have said that now the movie will make it a tank not hand gun to promote the toy line...dang...

Guns - Nowhere near as cool as a Tank.

Hate all those restarts, but I don't feel that any new series should completely tie in to the one conitnuity. BW (IMO) went a little too far by completely incorporating G1 into its own story and depending for a large part on G1 for its own stories.

I still feel they couold have easily incorporated Armada into the G1 universe: making it a return to Earth instead of a first visit, making the minicons the former Micromasters and everytime something is told about the past (what happened quite frequently in Armada) make it G1.

That's the way I want new series to be. Independent shows who tell a new story with no need to know all the background/previous series so the kids/new viewers can understand the new show without any problems, but still with connections to the pervious shows to interest the older viewers and to make alle the seperate shows into one large universe.

I think Unicrons Herald is absolutely right.

A redone G1 series could work, i recall seeing a redone He-man cartoon a little while back that i felt was superior, while still faithful to, the original series. So there's no real reason they couldn't do a new version of G1 Transformers.

Yet Mattel's new MotU line was an ultimate failure -- the toyline was cancelled and MotU fans now have to suffer collecting the rest of the line in the form of statues as opposed to action figures. Voltron The Third Dimension failed for the same reason (although it burnt out a lot faster than Neo MotU). It was essentially the same thing that made G2 a failure too. I remember the first time I saw the G2 toys on shelves... I was extremely underwhelmed. "Oh look... G1 toys re-released in weird repaints... no thanks!" Then the cartoon came out - I remember the first time I saw G2 MTMTE Part 1, after watching it I went to school and discussed that ep with classmates... a boy sitting next to me in class remarked, "Did you notice that Transformers Generation 2 looks the same as Transformers Generation 1?!" - we all burst out laughing and the teacher told us to shut up. Then the comics came out... I thought it was alright, but of course, Marvel quickly canned the series after only 12 issues.

The thing that made Beast Wars such a success was that it was an entirely new and fresh concept. You had a bunch of whinging fanboys crying "TRUKKNOTMUNKEE!" but despite their skepticism, Beast Wars proved to be a smash hit, heralding a Transformers Renaissance and breathing new life into what was a dying franchise. I loved how Beast Wars managed to give us a whole new world of TFs, whilst simultaneously remaining loyal to its G1/G2 roots. I'd personally like to see Transformers return to that formula.

Guns - Nowhere near as cool as a Tank.

Concerning the megatron Gun/Tank thing you're missing my point, which was about a symbol of evil, not what was "cooler".

Megatron was supposed to have more firepower than pretty much any conventional earth weapon  regardless of his form so even his "unimpressive" handgun form could have destroyed several tanks.

Guns and tanks are both symbols of war and violence, thus equally serve well as metaphors for evil.

A handgun is actually an excellent icon of evil,( lets face it it's easier for people to get a gun and shot someone than it is to get and drive a tank over them ).

Concerning keeping the characters and their modes the same, that isn't a bad thing to an extent, as it makes them Iconic, like Superman or Batman, who have changed only gradually.

After 60 years or so of Batman and Superman, "gradual" change as you put it still can be quite substantial. Bats and Supes have been interpreted by a wide variety of artists. They stay basically the same because they are so iconic - they've been around for 60 years or so and are more or less a part of American culture. Megatron, I'm sorry to say, is not a part of American culture to even a fraction of the amount that Bats and Supes are. If Superman dies, it makes the 6 o'clock news. If Megatron turns us as a race car or a green and purple tank, well..... that's what websites like this are for.
