Is takara done with re-issues?

Recommended Posts

He means that Omega Supreme was not a Takara mould.

Omega Supreme, Jetfire, Shockwave, the Deluxe Autobots and the Deluxe Insecticons were all derived from non-Takara robot toys. Amongst these TFs, only Shockwave was ever sold in Japan (as Laserwave).

Omega Supreme came from a toy called "Mechabot-1" by ToyBox.

oh man that stink....

I want them to reissue Overlord, Star Saber, Victory Leo, Road Caesar and Liokaiser.

I don't know about the no Takara stuff never being reissued anymore.  Nowadays, if both companies think they can make a profit of it, there is a good chance they will do it.

I think the reason we don't see as many reissues is that they just don't sell as well, once the initial hype (after the very first bookstyle were announced) died down.

Wow.. I.. never knew that about Omega Supreme.

smrt: yes, but if Takara doesn't own the moulds, then how are you gonna make the reissues?? The only way would be for Hasbro to contact the individual companies, some of which no longer exist, such as Takatoku. Bandai had taken over Takatoku in 1984, and it was through Bandai, not Takara, that Hasbro acquired these moulds for Jetfire, the Deluxe Autobots and the Deluxe Insecticons (hence why they were never released in Japan as TFs). I have no idea if ToyBox or ToyCo still exist - and if so, in what form. But it would have to take initiative from Hasbro, not Takara, to contact these companies and see if they even have the moulds and if they would be willing to do recasting/remoulding for any reissues. I strongly doubt it, since Hasbro has pulled out of doing G1 reissues after the failure of their own reissue line - and even that line was based on whatever Takara had reissued, Hasbro took no initiative in commissioning any specific reissues themselves.

But Takara can only reissue moulds that they own - both in a legal and physical sense (as we know, many old moulds have been lost/destroyed).

Sounds like things slowed down once the Taka-Tomy merger happened.  Looking forward to seeing things pick back up again.

Yeah, but with the Titanium and Classics lines coming, I don't really have much to complain.

Shockwave/Laserwave has never been reissued. As mentioned before, TakaraTomy does not own the GunBorg Astro Magnum mould - it belonged to a company called ToyCo.
