G1 questions

Recommended Posts

Didn't you read those posts? The sources didn't point either way to that. In fact, it was neutral.

Sorry, I work evenings as well on Wednesdays, and inbetween my day and night jobs I was inspecting a property, so I was just knackered last night. I also apologise to anyone whom I may have inadvertantly proposed to last night too. :P

Sparks are stupid, Transformers should just be machines.

Since the beginning of G1, Transformers were always described as being actual living machines. The idea of Sparks has introduced an element of spirituality into the story, which I personally think is cool.

That don't explain how they look similar from body to body if they're actually just the sparks. Why does Rattrap have the same face originally and as a Transmetal? Why does the Cybertron Defense team have the same faces/color as the original 3?

It'd at least be preset in the actual spark to look a cirtain way... hence how TFs can "age" like Cheetor did, and how some look old because of "wrinkles" and also grow facial hair.

Yeah I agree. The whole organic aging thing (wrinkles, beards) is stupid. Emirate Xaaron is a better example of an elderly Transformer - no wrinkles or beards, just a very old and worn machine.

just blame it on the uncreativity of the toy designers, or maybe they want those toys to be easily recognizible as upgrades of previous toys.

It's actually a marketing thing. I think one thing that turned some people off BM Optimus Primal was that he no longer carried the classic Optimus looking head features. I personally didn't mind - in fact, I thought it was a neat idea to finally give Optimus Primal a completely original head design... but as some other fans have said in another thread, there is an expectation of some recognisable features to be carried across characters, e.g.: Prime's helmet/faceplate, Megatron's bucket-head etc.

It doesn't make sense from the story's POV, but it makes sense in terms of marketing and selling the toys. d:

It makes sense from a story POV if you consider the fact that TFs probably subconciously think of themselves in a certen way. I mean if your face got blown off, wouldn't you want the Plastic Surgen to make your new face as close to your own face as possible?

I would have thought the horrible ugly toy that bore but a passing resemblance to the show was the big reason

and yes, I'm serious.

Not if your face originally looked like this: ugly.jpeg

I thought it was kinda funny that in the Season 1 opening credits, Prime's trailer just rolls off the back of the Autobot symbol and falls into oblivion.

I couldve cared less about the mass shifting thing ten years ago...but then i only had about 30 tfs...........but anyways i didnt get into something as deep as how the trailer dissapears. If anyone remembers, his trailer was destroyed twice in the first season alone. I think he just has spares sitting around and forces Wheeljack to keep building new ones.

So by your definition, the G1 comics - which came out before the cartoon and lasted into the early 90s - would also not be "Transformers." (-_-;)

I like ToyFare's explanation - that his trailer has its own daily routine - morning workout in the gym, crowd-diving at a sports event and visiting strip clubs with He-Man whilst they slip cash into the pole-dancers' undies. (^O^)

*doesn't really consider Beast Machines to be "Transformers" since it's not a cartoon from the 1980's*

I just thought it was incredibly ironic, seeing as that was coming from you  :tftongue
