G1 questions

Recommended Posts

I always thought prime trailer was a hologram after the three parter.

It really didn't do anything important and that would explain what happened to roller.

It wasn't a hologram when he rolled down the hill!

Holograms on Star Trek can kill... I'd think that TFs can create similar ones.

Though where's the holo EMITTERS? :wtf

Lazerblast: again you are just inventing theories with little to no canonical evidence to support it. There is no evidence from G1 canon that directly supports the notion of nanotechnology being involved on their transformation, and as X-BoB said, it would not explain the difference in mass - which would mean that Soundwave would transform into a walkman weighing several tonnes. Mass-shifting is the only theory that could explain how that could happen.

Did you miss the part in my last post about anti-gravity technology manipulating weight? THAT explains the difference in mass, and quite good IMHO.

And besides, you're talking like you have canonical evidence of X-BoB's theory. What it seems like is that ppl just like being aginst me :roll

Mass shifting is mentioned in DW MTMTE :P

Megs changes sizes when he transforms because Hasbro thought having a character that turned into a gun, especially since the toy could be hand held and what not, so they had the bad guy turn into a gun. There is no science involved. Primes trailer just disappears. This is before super modes, and they decided that there wasn't anything interesting it could do, expect pop it in for a coouple of eps using Rover.

There, happy, stop trying to reason it out. This is working my last nerve

OK,  ... Vol 8 pg. 50

"SIZE/MASS CHANGE

During conversion, many Cybertronians are capabl of shifting their size, growing larger or smaller to suit the needs of their mode.  There are two primary methods by which this takes place: parts compression and mass conversion.

PARTS COMPRESSION

Parts compression is the standard technique for Cybertronians who grow larger or smaller in their transformations.  Its operation is relatively simple: in the smaller of the mechanoid's modes the parts are designed to slide together in a tightly compressed fashion, filling in whatever space is available.  This allows for the Cybertronian to have extra material physically stored within for use when converting to the larger mode.  In the larger mode, the extra parts are shifted out, expanding their size considerably.  This method does have its drawbacks, including the fact that the mechanoid in quetion often has weaker armor in the expanded mode.  Also, this method is highly inefficient for extreme size changes.

MASS CONVERSION

Mass conversion is the more complex of the two methods, and it represents a significant genetic difference in those who possess it.  In their standard size, the basic atomic components of Cybertronians who utilize mass conversion are at rest.  However, when called upon to convert into a larger or smaller mode, the very subatomic particles that compose them restructure themselves even as the being's body changes its physical configuration.  Much like a Cybertronian's physical form can change its shape and properties, so can the atomic building blocks of those who possess mass conversion abilities.  These particles are hardwired to reconfigure themselves according to a predetermined schematic, splitting up or combining to alter their own mass and density to match the needs of the mode in question."

... so, I guess you're both right, ... and wrong.   Parts compretion is conacle, but with no mention of nanites.  And so is mass conversion, but without mention of subspace.

But subspace is mentioned in the BT stories, thus making it canon, just not in this contex

I said much the same stuff on the first page, and nobody listened there ether...  :redface

Go on...

Oh we listened, but we like drama. Sorry to seem like we ignored you.

Okay - X-BoB and NATO are right. They have provided two canonical sources to back their arguments, so that's pretty damn conclusive. So until later canon retcons it otherwise, mass-shifting is the answer.

The End.
