The Reality That May be Transformers

Recommended Posts

Sure I believe real TF can be created someday... too bad almost all of us on this board and the kids today, will be fertilizer by then. It will happen someday, just not within our lifetime.

The AI question is a good one. Actually, AI has already developed to the point of refusing orders. While creating the battle scenes for the Lord of the Rings trilogy, they used AI so each warrior would think/act for himself. The problem was, once they activated the sequence to see what would happen, programmers found that most of their CG warriors chose to drop their weapons and flee to the hills! :tftongue

It is possible right now, with a few exceptions..

We have developed artificial mussle fibres called Shape memory Alloy (Commonly called memory wire) which can change length when an electrical current passes through them.

We're coming up with newer, stronger, ligher alloys and metals for construction purposes.

And with all of the Anime series in Japan, the US and other animation centres, we've got enough plasuabile designs to choose from.

The problem lies in 2 main areas.

Physical Size: The bigger they are, the less can be produced without sucking the world's resourses dry

Power source: We're still developing Hydrogen fusion power, but it's not fully completed yet, plus actually getting it small enough to use would help.

In the future, i could see something along the lines of Medabots/Persocoms from Chobits/Dolls from Angelic Layer type robots. Small highly mobile robots, some actually looking similar to humans.

The days of giant space mecha and transformers thundering down the streets are too far away, unless we can solve the demand for power sourses and materials, then we can make these types of robots.

Basically, if you want your Transformer, start praying they come up with Star Trek replicators so that an unlimited metal supply can be made..

But if you want a robot, think smaller.

Good things come in small packages, Better things come in even smaller packages made by Japan!

Take a look at Macross (Robotech); the military developed transformable fighters to combat the Zentraedi with some sense of equality. (considering that they were 40 feet tall!) If the need arises, and the funding is there, anything is possible.

As for practical, no one ever thought telephones would ever be portable, and who thought that in the 1950's the first computer, called ENIAC, would evolve in 50 short years into something you could set on your table or even your lap.

We can't begin to see what is possible in the future, or what applications that such technology will fill. (although military applications will most certainlt be among them). As for the transformers themselves, their technology is so far ahead of ours, we wouldn't know where to begin. We haven't even mastered space travel yet, but inthe world of the transformers, they have starships, as well as a myriad of other technologies that continue to elude us.

In short, it's possible and practical. Just not right now(give it about 200 years! :D)

just on your lap?

heck they're in those portable telephones nobody ever thought we'd ever have!

every once in awhile technology takes a huge leap forward. i really think if it was a matter of the working mechanics, then we'd already see at least one that works. i think the biggest problem right now is power. once a suitable long lasting portable power supply is available, we just might see.

on the history channel i was watching modern marvels and saw something about a new super light, super strong alloy that can be made from carbon thats already being used to make skyscrapers. the best part is, seeing this alloy is made primarily out of carbon, there is no limit as to how much of it can be produced.

i don't think anyones looking to mass production just yet, a working prototype alone would be a nice thing to see one day. if for nothing else, just to see that it is indeed possible.

You I've been thinking....we can make people cartoon characters....so whose to say that somewhere there isnt a transformer and someone met them and said "Hey you i want to make a cartoon out of you" maybe someone is hiding them in Area 51...you know the military base that no one is allowed to see....maybe thats why cuz someone found them and didnt want the secret to let out.....

I dont know about you but i think its field trip time! :)
