Well, we have plenty of Customizers and Bashers here and elsewhere, so I'm pretty sure we would have enough entries to actually hold an event like this.

So exactly what has to be done to get this thing rolling?

Does a Mod or an Admin need to get involved with it to make it happen? If so, who do we need to talk to? I'm game for it if everyone else is.

Man I'd love to see this followed through.

 

I don't know what we can do for prizes, or how we can fund them...

 

How about each entry submits a dollar or two via paypal to a certain account.  The person who owns the account is also a judge, and can purchase the prize and ship it out to the winner/winners.

 

I don't really know how websites work...maybe there are advertisers (Transformers-related) that we can get that will want to place ads on the site and fund the prizes...or stores we can contact...

First we need categories.  My ideas are:

 

TF Custom of the Year 2005

 

Best G1/G2

Best BW/BM

Best Armada/Energon

Best Cybertron

Best Alternators

Best G1/G2 Homage

Best BW/BM Homage

Best Armada/Energon Homage

Best Paint

Best Articulation

Best New Customizer

TF Custom of the Year

 

Best G1/G2, Best BW/BM, etc. Would be any custom made from those toyline molds regardless of characters.  I would consider Masterpieces to be G1.  Example: G1 prime repainted as Scourge.

 

Best Homage categories would be any custom of a character from that toyline made from another toyline mold.  Example: Alternators custom of BW character.

 

The rest are self explanatory.

 

Entry guidelines:

 

1.)  It would be open to any customs finished between 1/1/05 and 1/1/06.

 

2.)  Start a thread at each website for entries. 

 

3.)  Submit as many customs as you want.  Submit 3-4 pictures of your custom.

 

4.)  A few impartial judges (preferably Admins from sites: Super Fire Convoy, Kalidor, Tony, and hopefully Remy) will chose the 4 best in each category.

 

5.)  Start poll threads at each site for general public voting.  Hopefully it’ll get frontpaged and get a lot of people voting.

 

6.)  Tally up the votes.

 

7.)  Announce winners.

 

Timeline:

 

Entry Submission:  April 1st to April 15th

Judges Nomination: April 16th to April 22nd

Voting: April 23rd to May 6th

Announce Winners: May 8th

 

Prizes:

 

I don’t think we need cash prizes.  But I’d be willing to donate some extra Cybertron figures I have.  I was also thinking about making a little custom that would make a nice award.  Also, recognition works for me.

Definitely a nice start, though I think there may be too many categories, especially for a first go around.  If it's successful, then we can consider expanding it the following year.  On a similiar note, I liked the idea of having custom of the week (or month if there isn't enough new bashes each week).  We did that here for about 2 weeks when Bodycount was a mod.  He has since left of course.  But perhaps someone who frequents this kitbash forum can be mod and start that up again.  A bit more recognition for kitbashers and their work on the front page would be nice.

You're probably right.  A bit too many categories.  I could see a lot of overlap.

I personally like the idea of having an homage category.  There have been some customs that really portray the original character well.  Before, I put in 3 different homage categories just to break up the huge amount of Alternator customs that I figured would be submitted.

 

I also like the idea of a custom of the week.  It would be nice to have a mod here to do it.
