anyway I don't see how anyone could not see the character development in BM, which was IMO both more significant and deeper than in any other TF series. Every character is faced with a crisis that affects them on a personal level, and also impacts the team they're a part of. I mean, Optimus Primal? How is that not major character development? The only other TF character who changed more was Blackarachnia in BW, and that was mainly because they had her do a 180 when she ran into Silverbolt.

Really? That's the best sloppy writing I've ever seen.

As much as I am a fan of Beast Machines, I must say that Grimlock is right. BM does have some weak character development (I teach English literature btw ;)).

Well, at least there was character development - unlike what we got in G1.

fixed

Shut up Xbob, go back to Japan!

to be honest how much character developement was needed? considering that most of these characters are carry overs from beast wars.

none is "needed" since the shows exist to sell toys

tThe UT's Character development isn't as good as BM's but it sure beats G1's character Development.

I'm saying that it would have been really cool to see more of megatrons take over of cybertron.

I agree, so long as the maximals put up a decent fight.  There's enough hit and run away scenes in BM already.

Megatron's takeover was a sneak attack; for all intents and purposes you saw it happen in Nightscream's flashback.

I didn't mean the planet takeover, I was thinking more of Silverbolt and Rhinox's capture.  Let them go out in style, like Windu in ROTS.

I never said BM never had character development, I said it was weak, at least, compared to BW.

In the world of literary devices, that's called a "complication." It does not necessarily equate to character development, although complications may often be used as a catalyst for character development.

I mean, Optimus Primal? How is that not major character development?

As I said, nobody said that the show lacked character development. Optimus Primal certainly did have character development, but was it any good? Character development needs to follow a logical progression. I don't think Optimus Primal and Blackarachnia's character development was that bad... examples - IMHO - of poor char. development in BM would include Rhinox, Megatron and Silverbolt (and arguably Rattrap too). Even Scott McNeil complained about the way his character was being handled. These characters all underwent significant changes in their character without a seemingly logical transition to satisfactorily demonstrate why they had undergone such changes.

The only other TF character who changed more was Blackarachnia in BW, and that was mainly because they had her do a 180 when she ran into Silverbolt.

Well there's the difference - in BW, Blackarachnia's character change is well explained. The audience can see the gradual and logical transition in her character from villain to hero. Making a complete roundabout change in a character is fine, so long as it is justified within the story.

The most character develpment in G1 was when Spike got turned into the frankenstein robot

I disagree. There's plenty of character development in G1. 2 quick examples that come to mind: Carnivac and Grimlock (Furman's fav TF!)

I thought the reason for Rhinox's personality change was megatron tampering with his spark.  and Silverbolt's seemed pretty clear to me: as Jetstorm, he did terrible things and liked it.
