Yeah, I just figured they weren't lieing to us when they said that Primal and Megatron just took the names from their ancestors. I don't feel like they were linked to them in any other way, until the BW where they actually FOUND their ancestors.

saberwolf, you're putting too much thought into it. if Megatron had been the clone/child/upgraded G1 Megatron, it would have been stated much earlier in the series. besides, if you watch The Agenda part 2, he says the following: "But like the Original Megatron, I covered my bets"

If my memory serves me correctly, wasnt the last page in the G1 MTMTE #8 issue, the prelide to BW..with Dinobot and Megatron stealing the golden disks...and megatron even says "You can now call me megatron" or something along those lines

when is BW megatron not doing that throaty yesss thing he does?...it would seem to me if you thought it was along the same lines BW came later and megatron was just a typical power hungry decepticon leader....he probly just stole the name to strike fear in the hearts of the other cons

If you think about it, Galvatron never discussed himself as being the original Megatron.  Even in the movie. Galvy-"Ultra Magnus! I will crush you, like Megatron crushed prime" UM-"And you'll die trying..."

true...but the state of shock from being violated by unicron gave him a new personality all together...or so he thought

he wasn't violated.... :P

 

i think he just considered himself a new person, that's all.

I think this is interesting because in Japan, Primal and Megatron were the originals,

Yeah he says "Oh and Dinobot, from now on call me Megatron" or something to that effect. So its clear he changed his name to Megatron after seeing how cool the original Megatron was.

i've never believed that the two Megatrons ever had any connection other than in name. for starters, they don't look anything alike. at least Primal's and Prime's heads had very similar asthetics.
