in the opening moments of beast wars season 3 when megatron is gloating about his victory during the time storm he says "i megatron have triumphed. if you listen real close with the volume turned up he says YES with a deep dry and powerful type of voice.

now some would simply see that as him making a heart felt effort to emulate his ancestor's voice all together.

but from what i've been reading on the net over the years hasbro explained primal's resemblance to his autobot ancestor away as being a way for the maximal elders  to honor the noble beliefs of optimus prime. when it comes to primals origins though in that area some have interpreted that as meaning that optimus primal is himself a living clone of optimus prime but without his memories all together.

they never explained g1 megatron's mysteriouse dissapearance during the robot masters saga  along with pred megatron rebelling against the tripredicus council when they were grooming him for leadership. add that to the whole megaplex clone idea and i think it paints a rather clear origin story for pred megatron.

he has his ancestors potential for leadership and his desire for conquest and to some degree his charisma as well.

so who's to say he himslef is not a clone.

if one side does it it would make perfect sense for the other side to follow suit with their version of it

i never said that was the official origin for pred megatron.

i'm simply saying that one could interpret those parts as being a possible origin at best

In "The Nemesis", Megatron refers to G1 Megatron as his "namesake". And in "The Agenda", Ravage says, "You have his name, but you do not have his army." I think the idea here is that Megatron was a legendary figure among the Predacons, and that BW Megatron saw himself as a worthy successor to the name (a sentiment which not everyone shared, apparently).

And anyway, if Megatron were just a clone of G1 Megatron, then what effect would it have had for him to merge his spark with G1 Megatron's? Why would Megatron think that would give him power similar to what happened with Optimus Primal, if they were in fact the same guy?

he did it because he knew it would enhance his physical strength, stamina powerlevels and endurance to a level he was comfortable with, a level that would be an optimal amalgam of qualities from both generation 1 decepticon tech and predicon technology. when he went through with the spark merge he essentually regained his memories, battlefield prowess and culminated life experience as well.

think of the trippredicus council reducing his mind to a blank slate as a safety measure of sorts. as a clone he would have all the potential for leadership, the cunning and intelligence of his namesake and would fight and conquer and inspire the troops while the tripredicus council would be the true rulers puling the strings from behind him.

basicly it's what cobra comander wanted to do with serpentor in the 80's cartoon  before the guy put him soundly in his place.

i've never believed that the two Megatrons ever had any connection other than in name. for starters, they don't look anything alike. at least Primal's and Prime's heads had very similar asthetics.

I think this is interesting because in Japan, Primal and Megatron were the originals, so I've always wondered how they dealt with the Ravage situation, and Megatron capturing the spark

Anyway, the offical info is that Megatron took the name because he admired him and thought he was a worthy successor. Primal just happened to look like Prime (although in BM he saidhe was decended from Prime, but I refuse to recognise BM)

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Beast Megatron =/= G1 Megatron

Dead horse Dead horse!!!

We will never know these untold answers. I think in threads like this, it's best to end with the question, "What are your theories on this situation?"

I would like to think that with all the sparks eventually expiring and returning to the Matrix, eventually bits and pieces of old transformer memories would be put into newly made TFs. So IMO I think alot of Megs and Prime's memories were infused with the sparks of their BW counter parts and when they were......Born(or what ever) the info already stored in their sparks cause their facial features to resemble their ancestors. maybe they are even reincarnations with dorment memories.

Like the movie "The Matrix". Neo isn't the first Neo. Some how he is so important that he's reborn every time the Zion is destroyed and the humans are returned to the the Matrix.

But now in Japan continuity and now in IDW's comics, their are more than one Megs and Prime wanna be so I dont know what to say.
