Why do humans never get killed in TFs?

Recommended Posts

But I do think that kids' cartoons in general are waaaaay better now than they were in the 80's. It was a particularly grim time for animation.

well, the animation quality certainly has improved the the writing is still so-and-so.

It depends on what you're watching, I guess. A lot of the stuff on Nickelodeon is funny, as in "it makes me laugh" funny. And there are a lot of cool kid action cartoons as well that my kids are into (like Ben 10 and Danny Phantom). Sure, there are still some overly sincere cheesy shows, but my kids aren't into those so much. I don't think they do as well anymore.

if it's a show about war (like transformers) there should be casualties and unlike in energon there should be some actaul debri (like the death of starscream in armada)

A cartoon does not have to be gory or extremely violent indeed. I love Batman Beyond and that show only has functional violence.

Nor do I approve of bad language in cartoons aimed at children such as in the Headmasters cartoon.

A well handled death is ok with me as that is something children need to learn about. I too cried when Optimus Prime died. He was the greatest.

On the other hand, if Kicker were to die in a typical and gruesome Mortal Kombat fatality style way, then I would be cheering and dancing.

God how I hated the little bastard.

I never got it how the humans always stayed out of danger. I recently bought the Batman Begins game and in it the player has to ram police vehicles which then make a huge crash. Yet, no fatalities. Yeah right.  :wtf

Kicker for instance was only human, he should have had a fate similar to Jessica Morgan  (preferably worse) but he always survived. Fans world wide were hoping to see him die, yet never getting their wish.

Energon could have been good but Kicker ruined it.

IT'S A CARTOON, IT'S NOT MEANT TO BE REALISTIC

"War" as defined by kids' shows is on a level with what children do when they have their toys fight with each other. It's just imaginary play; the kids aren't re-enacting the battle of Antietam or anything.

but when you see those pictures, you tend to remember it

One thing i have always had a problem with - thinking of TF and GiJoe specifically - is that you show this WAR and then there is violence - and yet there are no consequences to these violent actions.

Look around you - i think thats a major problem - not just with violence - but wtih many things (teen pregnancy for example).

Kids/People dont have a firm graps of cause snd effect.

Its like a generation of people living out their lives as if they were their very own versions of Run Lola Run - until it isnt and then everything is already ruined.

As for TF:TM - my main gripe has always been not how dark or violent - but how abrupt the deaths were at the beginning and how that theme was not carried over for the second half of the film.

I am not saying all the new characters should have been killed off - but the film really does set a stylistic double standard.

if magnus could be lego'D back together - then what was the drama from the first half? WTF?

To call anything that happens in a kids' show "war" (or to imply that it should reflect the reality of war in some way) is kind of missing the point of kids' programming. Of course it's not going to be realistic; it shouldn't be. It's an onscreen representation of imaginary play.

Perhaps... I can see what you are saying.  But then that just makes the concept of "GiJoe" so much more repulsive to me.

at least TF's were cars shooting or crashing into cars....

Boys fight and play with toy guns and swords and stuff, it's no big deal. They only turn into psychopaths later on if their home life sucks.
