J.A.F.O.'s Collection

Recommended Posts

I had the same outlook when I started here in 04. After a few months, I got started with collecting.

You said that you've never opened any of them?  If so, pry tell, how do u now how cool they really are?  Transformer toys are not paintings, where u just look at them, they were meant to be touched.

Also, screw being afraid of opening them.  Just buy 1 binaltech/alternator or 20th Prime and OPEN THEM UP, and I bet my dog that you will be hooked.  Life is too short, open allllllllllllllllllllll

Read his posts and pay attention this time around:  Where did he say he never opened any of his Transformers.  AND where did he say he'd be "afraid of opening them" to begin with?

Reading is fundamental. :roll

Oh, welcome to the boards J.A.F.O.

and I hadn't even taken it out of the box yet.

I guess I know that whatever I buy now will soon end up boxed up rather than being played with or displayed.

The quotes speak for themselves.

Maybe I'd better clarify these statements...

Well of course I took Jazz out of the box to play with (what 9-year-old kid wouldn't?).

By "boxed up," I don't mean any toys are left in their respective boxes/cards so much as stored away out of sight altogether.

To use your painting analogy, in my case while I'm able to enjoy admiring works of art, I don't necessarily have the desire to buy any of them.

:wave  Hi and welcome to the site.  It's so nice to know your son will be a TF fan like you and I hope he will get to play with your toys soon (just as long he don't break them that soon hehe).  Like many other people said it's a good idea to at least buy the must haves.  Who knows you may get hooked on collecting as we all have.  Besides what fan of the movie don't dream about owning Unicron? :tflaugh

Very well.  But still bet my house that if you buy one and open it, one that is cool like 20th Prime, that you will get hooked and start to collect again.  Thats what happened to me.

Just wondering if you don't collect the figures do you like watch the cartoons or something because how can you be a fan of transformers and not purchase any of them?

And welcome to the board.

There are a lot of TF fans who don't collect the toys. Some fans are more into the fiction - the cartoons and comics, rather than the toys. Particularly female fans. One of the administrators of the Obscure Transformers Website (who incidentally is male) has a relatively small TF toy collection, but his knowledge of TF lore is absolutely fantastic - he knows every single minute detail, as you can tell from his web site which specialises in all the obscure elements of Transformers lore (and his knowledge of obscurity extends far beyond what is on his site, believe me).

One of my ex-gfs is a Transfans... when we were an item, she had 150+ TFs in her collection, which by the standards of a male fan would be pretty ordinary, but by female standards is pretty darn good. Female fans with massive collections like Raksha are quite exceptional... speaking of which, I'm not sure if Raksha is even still collecting the current line.

Incidentally, according to a study I conducted last year, the average Transformer collection size for Australian Transfans is 415 figures. For North American fans, it's 312. I didn't dissect the data between genders though. :P

First off, awesome intro and signature  :thumb. Second off, welcome to TFans. Just hope your kid doesn't destroy your transformers.

That's what PlaySkool Transformers are for. ;)
