Not Necessarily. Isn't there a Masterpiece Devastator project going on in the Kitbash section? That will use 1:24 scale bots, so it proves it's possible. It'll just be MUCH bigger than anyone else ever even thought it would be.

Yeah, the thing to keep in mind is that with most combiners, the "limbs" were already way out of scale. So if you had (for example) a real combiner made up of five jets, that'd be friggin huge.

Not so, I think that combiners are still very much possible in a later film. All they have to do is shift how they transform and then... combine. They would just make it a super huge combiner like it should be anyway.

 

I would kill to see a life sized Devastator kick some Autobot ass on the big screen. That wouldn't even be a match if Prime and the others tried to stand up against a TF that was 6 life-sized construction vehicles big, the Autobots would just loss (or better yet, build their own combiner).
