And Robert Orci says...

personally, i would love for Soundwave to be a car that was illegally modified for street racing with massive stereo speakers in the trunk :thumb

Yeah that would be cool and funny. With lots of blue neon lights in him.

I'm cool with that.

The only time I thought mass shifting looked cool, was in TF:TM just after Starscream blasted everyone on board the shuttle.  He just sort of chucked Megatron in the air like he was leaving the gun at  the crime scene. :tflaugh

Actually I don't care about mass-shifting. I didn't mind it in G1, but it's not realistic by today's standards...I mean really, a robot shrinking to become a Walkman

That's just...uh...

What's the word...

Hold on...

RIDICULOUS

Not considering that the TFs are way more advanced than us technology-wise. Heck, it's probably not even mass-shifting, but just becoming more compact and activating anti-gravity units to seem lighter.

Still, I don't care either way.

I'm glad that is settled too. Plus, w/o the mass shifting, the writers have to stay w/in the realm of realism and that can only be good for the movie. Realism in this film is definitely the way to go (hold on Madhammer, by realism, I mean it is believeable and could possibly happen, not that it did/will happen, only that it isn't totally impossible/unbelieveable).

Anything to make this movie into something that is credible in the eyes of the public and not just a remake of TF:TM or of the cartoon is good IMO.

This is the one thing that I am not going to go all fanboy over. I think it is good that they are being "believeable" and excluding mass shifting.

Real life - you couldn't make that stuff up!

I dislike mass shifting because it's a retcon and retcon is the devil. They never said anything in the G1 cartoon about size changing or anything like that. They just had the animators pull some perspective trick or something (or sometimes they just had Soundwave magically shrink :tflaugh). And it's not like there was ever a consistent size for the robots, even without transformation. Point is, it was a cartoon and I think it's a bit silly to create this needlessly complex justification for something that wasn't thought about that much to begin with. I mean, just because it appeared in G1, that doesn't make it OMFG TEH HOLY SCRIPTUREZ or something. I remember watching G1 back in the day and thinking every now and then "wow that was lame". But now that 20 years have passed it's not lame anymore, it's "canon". At what point did fans stop thinking critically?

anyway that was a big ghey rant, and it's moot anyway (thankfully)

I always hated mass shifting.  Glad it's gone.

though the subspace theory always worked for me.

except the TF's would probably have done other things with it than store guns and trailers
