I like the BW route - wherin the rat was half the size of a T-rex!

no mass shifting there.  they didnt even bother to confirm the size of the animals they scanned

(oh yeah and he spiders were bigger than gorrilas)

Which if you think about it - holds up to the original G1 bots not bothering with "scale" either.  of course where this idea breaks down is that the BW guys didnt have "human" interactions to hold them accountable - while we know that soundawave and Ratchet, for example, both needed to be in scale with humans on a regular basis.

nothing real deep here- just funning.

So people have no problem with giant alien machines that turn into cars but they cant shrik because people may not buy it?

Has the world gone mad?, if we buy giant alien robots why cant they shrink?, there alien god knows what they can do.

i dunno they kind of needed mass shifting in G1....I mean think of megatron..he had to change his size to fit into some ones hand..and sound wave was pretty neat too...plus i have always liked the way primes trailor just slipped away.........

Personally...I think for the 1st movie it is a good idea to exclude the mass shifting idea.  I never really had a problem with it, and as a kid watching G1 I never really thought about it other then enjoying the show. I mean, afterall, it was just a cartoon for entertainment. Over analyzing a kids cartoon can be, well hazardess to your mental sanity lol  :-D I also as a kid, realized they had toys to sell and they had to use and promote them in the show :-)

I think if a sequal is made then they might be able to explore more of the more in depth myths and functions of the Transformers, however for now keeping it simple and hopefully enjoyable will attract MORE people so there will be a 2nd and 3rd movie :-)

apparently not "provide internally consistent logic"

beast wars animals were not to scale because they were to scale with the Robots that the animal forms covered....if they aninals were to scale....there would have bee MAJOR mass shifting for Tarantulas, blackarachnia, inferno...and so on....I think it beast wars case it was better to base the size of their Animal ALt mode on the size of the robot they were covering.

I kind of agree with him though....having no issues with mass shifting myself.....if I can accept that there are alien robots that can transform into cars and sell propel themselves, think and feel like humans.....why not change size? I know what you mean LMH....that it needs some kind of explination Internally on the Bots, however if the mass of people accept that robots that transform exist on a whim? why not mass shift?

You realize that "mass-shifting" was only conceived of because Soundwave, Megatron, and a few others were part of the old Takara Microman line. In that toyline's comic story, from what I know, they never shifted size to be 20 feet tall. Really, it was just the animators/scriptwriters trying to rationalize the fact that these giant robots could change to human-sized objects. Don't get me wrong, I like gun Megs and cassette deck Soundwave, but mass-shifting was made up as a convenience for the show's creators.

Science is not magic. That is all.
