but, as an Alternator collector, I can't help but be mildly amused by this.

i second that!!

and people still can afford to buy a toy that they have to mod. i dont get it.

Well unfortunately, I was unaware that I had to mod Red alert when I bought him. I was one of the first to get Red alert from BBTS, so at that time, no one knew of these problems. But yes, it is quite funny that we all spent way too much money on a figure that has terrible QC and needs to be fixed, when all the BT collectors have been talking up the superior quality of the BT line (myself most definitely included). I do think that Takara has learned its lesson from this and has since decided to do the BT and BTA lines concurrently so that there is little to no mold degradation.

OMFG you paid £69 for alert i take it you got him from forbidden planet thier the only stores with such wtf prices hes worth about £35 at most other stores

the subarus are gr8 toys keep in mind they were the 1st atempt at the BT's so thier not going to be the best

In defense of BTA Red alert and Takara in general, have any of you taken a close look at the last couple Alternators?  Hasbro can't even die plastic consistently on Sunstreaker and I still haven't seen a Prowl without screwed up windows.  After Hasbro pounds out their 4th version of the Subaru it's going to fare just as poorly.

Yeah, so why overuse the mold and put out figures w/ terrible QC. All that does is hurt Takara and Hasbro's reputations. They would have been better off making new molds for new figures than investing $$ in an overused mold (both in literally overusing the production molds and in making yet another Subaru figure) that few people will probably buy.

Not that many have Red alert and I really doubt the many will buy Ricochet, he doesn't even have the nostaglia thing going for him that Red alert does. Overall a pretty big waste of money.

I wonder if the shoddy vehicle mode is why the BT*s are packaged in bot mode. :schin

Hah, You guys are the lucky ones. When I got BTA01 he had 2 right thighs!!! Suffice to say I sent him back and got it replaced but it still cost me £10 to ship.  :tfmad

That, and to distinguish the BTA line from the BT line. But I would definitely say that packaging them in bot mode is rather convenient for a figure that sucks in alt mode.

Can't say I've ever had trouble getting that mold to transform properly into either mode.  Sure it isn't just your ability to figure out the way it's supposed to work?

I'm pretty sure the problem is with alert. I have smokescreen (Alt & BT), Silverstreak (Alt en BT) en alert and although transforming BT Smokes & streak always is difficult out of fear of chipping, I always get them right after a while (no problems with the alts).

However, alert just doesn't want to line up. The legs/aft of the car always has a slight gap in between, the aft windows never get in to place with the result that the aft doors just don't fit. Considering almost everyone who has BTA alert has the same complaint, it seems to be a problem inherent to alert.

Plus, Takara couldn't even get him together properly for the photos on the box.

My BTA2 Sunstreaker actually doesn't peg together very well either - the rear section of body work doesn't want to stay in the holes in the rocker panels above his exhaust pipes.
