Plus....when were were KIDS watching G1 on our TVs in the US and seeing the movie in the theater and watching the rebirth end transformers.....how could any of us really KNOW what was going on in japan transformerswise? Were there any of us 6 to what maybe 10 year olds who even KNEW that there were being showing in japan as well? I didn't know this or about the headmasters/masterforce/victory until i was about 22 and started to recollect transformer...oh and this lovely thing I am on right now...the Computer/Internet allowed me to learn about it....So how can we judge now...what IS G1 in american and japan...its been over for almost 2 decades. In america our g1 was different then theirs...just accept it. They did not show the movie because it Bombed here, that is the only reason they waited to long to show it, because they didnt know how well it would do and what the reaction would be to it.

SO, In closing....they are BOTH g1 in their OWN respects.

That is a way of putting it. But to not show the movie there because it bombed sounds odd because if anyone makes tons of movies from crappy series it is the Japanese. I mean there have been at least 6 Pokemon movies. Sounds to me like they will watch anything.  :tftongue

But history proved that the Transformers movie was going to be a hit because which movie from that time period is still available?  :clap

Besides, even though a movie may get scathing reviews I will always see it myself and form my own opinion. The Japanse should have done the same and not stuffed it away and pretended it does not exist untill many years later.

I read the stories in the booklet of Reconstructed version. Many fans wanted to go but parents did not take them because of the reviews. So that is a major factor to consider.

Even if the new movie gets bad reviews we will still go and judge it ourselves because only we as Transfans can truly do so

I too learned of the Japanese cartoons at a later age but they do not appeal that much to me simply because they are just too different from what I watched as a kid. True, they are made in another country but they could have kept the classic sound effects in. That would have helped somewhat.

All said and done Headmasters was still midly entertaining. One had to let go of the US concept of Transformers and ignore some of the more glaring story errors.

To be honest, with the new movie and new comic series basically being a reboot of G1, I don't care.  But if I did care, I'd say no.

And while it will probably upset X-Bob, I will say emphatically that the Japanese BW series have nothing to do with Beast Wars.  That would be like saying that "A Very Wookie Christmas" is a part of the Star Wars universe.

Well, the series probably has no ties to Beast Wars so it makes sense.

I guess it is safe to say that the Japanese series have no ties to any of the US cartoon series. The appereance of classic G1 characters is probably a cheesy attempt by the writers to appeal to fans.

Like a lot of bad super-hero team ups.

It think it is safe so say there are several continuities:

1 The US G1 continuity which was later continued in Beast Wars and Beast Machines.

2 The Japanese G1 continuity which (to me) which has no apparant ties to the US G1 series and should be viewed seperately.

3 The Japanese Car Robors show made into R.I.D.

4 Micron legend and Superlink which are one story.

5 Galaxy Force

6 Armada, Energon and Cybertron

i count it as g1, it beats the g1 rebirth anyway.

i enjoyed headmasters and though it is extremely japanese it sits better than headmasters, the idea of the heads being the actual robot makes more sense to me than humunoid partners in exosuits.

i liked some of the character development in headmasters, sixshot and daniel are the prime examples of this. though he and wheelie were irritating in the western continuity i felt that in japan they were handled better, headmasters is as well as the story of these new characters but is also daniels story about how he grew up. headmasters does focus around the headmasters, but thats what it was meant to be like. in america did anyone notice how the autobots highbrow and (name escapes me) were treated as cars when they were a helicopter and a fighterjet.

Fortress was a better character than cerebros fullstop, and scorponok was excellently executed

overall the only two things i wouldn't agree with are the in show music (not the theme, that was cool) and kup, blurr and arcee's role early on.

Well, the series probably has no ties to Beast Wars so it makes sense.

WTF! so you never say the Beast Wars 2 movie? greated their are two different planets on which the two groups of Maximals landed... but it also explains what happened to Primal when he was nearly destroyed at the end of Season 1 of BW.

Cybertron has more to do with Galaxyforce than you think it is to a extent following the original GF story.... with minor hints to Energon! and minor hints to Armada too and the destruction of Unicron in another Demension!

It is basically meant to be a follow up to Energon whereas Galaxy Force is a new show seperate from Superlink so I listed them seperately.

As for the BW II movie, again I must say that I view it seperately. It may be an excellent explanation what happened to Optimus Prime and fit in perfectly but I personally do not fit it into BW.

The DW Beast Wars series how great will end up to me will not be part of the BW cartoon continuity either.

G1 in japan was different from g1 in america - it is all trans - u r saying they have a diff development of character but that is b/c it is a diff culture - comparing apples and oranges - the same type of inconsistencies show in the eps that were aired in both places and I think rebirth was aired in japan on an ova as extra on someting - not sure - but they develop the characters diff in japan than we do in america - had those eps been dubbed over to the states-  the characters would have followed the development of the american series.

and how can u not love God Ginrai?  I think that was strong character development - Headmasters was a little slow and I can sympathze with your arguments but it had some kewl Blot - and it gets better in the later series.  And Someone had said someting about star convoy being diff than convoy - he is a reincarnation - it does follow us contin but was never animated.  God Ginrai was human who merged with a transector - this tansector was a body that was intended to be used to bring convoy back - this was later said by the witers I think.

I say yes, but in certain cases. There are multiple continuities they can be applied to. If you want to follow strict US continuity, that is fine too. But you can't have Rebirth and Headmasters in the same timeline, so you get to pick and choose really.

It does not fit into US/UK Marvel continuity at all, however.

Headmasters simply did not appeal to me as much as it should. Mostly because of the Japanese influences but there were cool episodes. The start was quite strong.
