So,  You think that Optimus Prime(the original  gen1) servived all the way to Cybertron you're on crack!

there was only one true Optimus Prime- gen1 the rest weren't him, but individual characters that had the same views on life....but carried on the name... nothing more.

Plus Galaxyforce shows the Gen 1 characters... but they are refered too as the Ancients.... plus the Atlantis starship has soundwave on it...

About the only thing I didn't like about japans headmasters... Cyclonus and Scourge turned into the comedy relief... two proud warriors turned into idiots-WTF!

Geez, if Sunbow would have done Victory(Season 6), the Starsaber would have been renamed into Optimus Prime, dispite Prime being there!

And in Masterforce(season5) Overlord would be renamed Megatron! with some idiotic names for the two engines.

Grow up and face reality.... Gen1 is dead! I love the original show, but its time bury the original... unless hasbro and takara revisit gen1 in a updated line and show....

Or, the japanese shows being the alternate timelines from the american show... but never the less.. still gen1

I've heard that some kid told a friend that Armada was gen 1(toreture comes to mind for that!).

I do not consider the later Japanese shows to be G1 or a continuation of it in any way. The G1 Prime was last seen in the Rebirth episodes of the cartoon or in the comics.

Armada, Energon and Cybertron have their own seperate storyline and the characters in it have no relation (save the name and appearence) to the G1 Transformers. (Which I really think they should drop in favor for new characters.)

And seeing how Cybetron will be rewritten from Galaxy Force it will most likely turn out that the G1 characters seen in the episodes are from an alternate reality seeing how it does not fit into the Armada/Energon/Cybertron continuity for them to be acients.

Vector Prime can travel trough time but he probably can travel between dimensions/timelines as well.

G1 is far from dead, IDW will soon release a brand new comic series with the G1 characters. Another continuity but still G1 as it will capture the essence of G1. I am sure of that, especially knowing that Simon Furman will be writing it.  And of course the movie which (thank goodness) will be made in the US.

The Japanese shows cannot be from the same timeline as the G1 cartoons so they are a different timeline.

Your opinion! that's fine... just don't push your opinion down on others and think you're right... and neither will I!

I have always excepted the fact that there could be alternate timelines similar to Gundam with their UC and AC timeline shows... thats the whole thing that I'm sticking to..

There you said it yourself... the original Gen1 cartoon done and over... an thank god the marvel comics story... IDW and the previous comics both have a different take on the Gen 1 story.. far as the movie... possibly based similar to dreamworks comics... not the original cartoon story...

As long as Dean and Devin don't do the movie... I don't care who is what in it... except were it concerns Prime and the Voice.... No Tom Hanks or Tom Cruise! :tdown  :tdown  Gary Chalke is a actor that has been normal movies and shows.... Granted Peter Cullen would be prefered but reality has to set in... he doesn't what to do the character anymore.

So do I *shudders in antipatation* or in fear one or the other! :eek

To put it plainly whether you think it is or not its part of G1 continuity....albeit japanese G1 continuity.  According to "The Big Book of Masterforce" Ginrai's transtector was originally meant to be a new body to resurrect Convoy until Ginrai God On'ed which increased the Cybertrons power many times over.  Secondly it might just be fan-wankage but Minerva, Wheeljack, and Perceptor show up torepair God Ginrai after him being shot by Deathsaurus which leads to him becoming Victory Leo.  And to you comment about how characters were just showing up although they died you have to also note that Transformers: The Movie wasnt shown till around Victory I think.  So is it G1? I would say yes just a different take on it.  And food for thought Maximals and Predicons are downsized Transformers to conserve energy, right?  Then why are there so many Micromasters running around by the end of Victory and Zone, hmmmm.

Just my two cents

I really can not believe people are arguing about this....The Japanese seriers are part of G1. They are different in all the ways stated because they are Japanese! They continued transformers were hasbro gave up on the show and just decided to keep importing/making and selling the new toys from those japanese shows. I mean where do you think the powermasters and pretenders came from? The Japanese shows! Now,  I can not say that i LIKE the japanese shows....they are...Interesting, however they are still G1, just in Japan.  Since Beast Wars and Beast Machines were made in the US, they followed our continuity of G1, so I would assume if they were made in Japan, they would have followed more closely to their G1 continuity, or just left out the G1 connection all together.

G1 is G1 so I DO consider the japanese transformer episodes as g1.  I didn't before I saw them.  But when I saw them I knew they were G1.

Plus....when were were KIDS watching G1 on our TVs in the US and seeing the movie in the theater and watching the rebirth end transformers.....how could any of us really KNOW what was going on in japan transformerswise? Were there any of us 6 to what maybe 10 year olds who even KNEW that there were being showing in japan as well? I didn't know this or about the headmasters/masterforce/victory until i was about 22 and started to recollect transformer...oh and this lovely thing I am on right now...the Computer/Internet allowed me to learn about it....So how can we judge now...what IS G1 in american and japan...its been over for almost 2 decades. In america our g1 was different then theirs...just accept it. They did not show the movie because it Bombed here, that is the only reason they waited to long to show it, because they didnt know how well it would do and what the reaction would be to it.

SO, In closing....they are BOTH g1 in their OWN respects.

With this post I was trying to make my point why I do not see the Japanese cartoons as G1 and I think I came up with solid reasons why.

My belief (and it is my belief and no one is obliged to follow it) that with the Transformers being a US concept (character and storywise) the US storyline will always take precedent over the Japanese one. I also believe that the new show should be made in the US again simply because Beast Wars and Beast Machines were excellent toys.

I have never heard of the big book of Masterforce but just like the US comics may be completely unrelated to the cartoons. Or not, it is always hard to figure out. In case of Star Trek, the books are considered to be non canonical but they do have to correspond with one and other so if one characrter dies in one book another writer cannot have that character appear all of a sudden.

Wheeljack died in the movie as well so it would be hard to appear in anything after the movie. I know the movie was not broadcast in Japan for a long time but the Japanse episodes are not showing many G1 characters. I do not see Wheeljack, Ironhide, Ratchet or any of the minibots. The Dinobots made only one appereance which was a bit odd as well seeing they are some of the only first season characters to make it into season 3.

The introduction of Micromaster in the cartoons was simply because the toys were downsized to compete with the Micro machines line. In the comics it was attributed to energy concerns which if it was mentioned in the cartoons, corresponded with Beast Wars.

But that would still not match 100% as Cybertron was destroyed in the Japanese cartoons which does not match the Beast Machines explanation. And seeing how I feel BM takes precedent over the Japanse cartoons the latter cannot fit within the US G1/BW/BM continuity.
