So I bought A TM Hot Rod....

Recommended Posts

I've had Firebolt sitting in my parts box since TM Hot Rods were going for about $260. I've been waiting for them to go down in price so I could pick one up without the gun for cheap. I finally broke down and grabbed one for about $20 (it was in pounds) and it cost me an extra $10 to ship. This seems about right for a toy which would normally be cost prohibitive to buy the gun seperately for so I bit. I get it in the mail (mailed in an envelope?!?) and proceed to put Firebolt in his hand....and....doesn't fit. Crap.

I email the guy and tell him it was a regular one and he says

"What's the difference? I looked it up in a guidebook and the pictures were identical."

This is a good example of a little knowledge is a dangerous thing. He knew what avaluable toy was but not how to actually identify it. I'm not quite sure what I'm going to do yet.

If I remember properly the only difference between the two is the siz of the hole in his hand and I think the hole in the engine.  Both are bigger in the TM version.

Otherwise the two are identical.  They only remolded a few peice between the two.  Made for a very easy turn around from movie/season 3 to season 4 toy versions.

I actually have a somewhat beatup TM Hotrod minus Firbolt.

He needs new stickers and his windsheild has some bite marks in it (damn dog)  But otherwise he's in good shape.  Chrome looks good and all.  His stickers are trashed though.

Actually, seeing as I now have an extra, all I would need is the head, plastic feet, and hands which can be removed.

Would you like to sell or trade? I have some rare TF paper work, some parts or cash if thats your boat.

until I clicked the link, I kept thinking "Transmetal Hot Rod? WTF..."

I hope you get this worked out. :thumb

I have a G1 Hot Rod whose hands are too big for the guns... or maybe the guns are too small for the hands. I dunno which is which.

My TM Hot Rod's plastice is much darker than my "regular" Hot Rod.  It cant be sun damaged because all the orange parts are the same shade between the 2 figs.  As well...all the joints are the same colour...if it was sun damgaed, this would not be the case.  I might have a Frankenhotrod..

You have the Targetmaster version and the regular one's guns. I am now stuck with two regular ones. Grumble...

that sucks dude. but why not just buy the takara reissue? with all the hotrods these days hes more than affordable.

Reissue=Knockoff

I can get a real one for less than a reissue anyway. There not exactly the same molds anyway as the parts aren't interchangable.

Here is more info on the whole reissue differences...

Also, I just ordered another Takara Reissue Hot Rod to open. My open $7 TRU Roddimus Prime was feeling lonely and finding a loose TRU Hot Rod is too expensive. Digital-Toys has him for $25 on eBay. Not bad since he comes with the 2 guns and Firebolt.
