I never owned the original Ultra Magnus, my friend had him, but I always wanted it so bad.  But I am wondering, if by today standards, is Ultra Magnus just a brick?

What if in the movie, Prime had borrowed Magnuses trailer? 

 

I think he'd have kicked everyones can, and won the blasted war! 

 

Then he coulda killed Unicron.

 

Then Magnus would be mistaken for Optimus everywhere he went, and pointed at and they'd yell "FAKER!!!!'

Wouldn't it kill magnus? seeing that this armor is a sort of living assistor? That would not be realy prime like.

 

And if we see that from a RPG point of view, he would loose in agility. That would make Optimus unable to deal with several thing, then.

you know um atleast tried, and was a good mentor to roddy along with kup, and the armor didn't really hold up to the reformatted con attack, but hey they were reformated right, right  :redface  but if prime had it i think something else bad would've happened that would've killed prime, like the armor going haywire or something

Oh absolutely. The only things that can move on UM when he is UM (ie in the trailer) are his arms, everything else is complete immobile.

 

I still like the figure just b/c he looks cool towering over the rest of the G1 figures.

 

Oh and the RiD UM was pretty badass

Seeing as how in the show and the toy Motormaster's trailor was a part of his robot mode... I don't think that would even be possible.

 

Ultra Magnus' trailor is onyl a life support suit in the Dreamwave continuity. In all the others(Except possibly the IDW continuity, but that is currently unknown. it IS just getting off of the ground, after all.), it's part of his normal robot mode, ala Motormaster.

 

I dunno if it'd lower Optimus' speed. Ultra Magnus seemed to run around pretty fast in Season 3 and the movie. not like, blazingly, but not slower than Prime.

Yep, the Magnus version was a dreamweave creation mostly. Before that with G1 it was just Ultra Magnus, the base cab just was not used.

or...there wouldn't have been a UM, Prime just would've gotten a supermode, and kids would have to buy a new toy to get an optimus prime that matched the show.
