I actually did this on occassion. Before I had PM Prime and if Prime needed some extra strenght (or height), I'd just give him Magnus' trailer, while Magnus decoyed the deceps with Prime's trailer.

Wouldn't it kill magnus? seeing that this armor is a sort of living assistor? That would not be realy prime like.

 

And if we see that from a RPG point of view, he would loose in agility. That would make Optimus unable to deal with several thing, then.

Ultra Magnus isnt Darth Vader. He doesnt need the trailer. as in the G1 dream wave series Magnus just wasnt Ultra anymore without it but was still able to knock Shockwave into the inferno. But Remember Optimus Prime has the matrix. He doesnt need anything else.

I always thought the cartoon Magnus didn't have a "cab mode."  I thought that was just his body, not an extra exo-armour.

The paint apps depend on the figure you got. There were at least 2 different original G1 versions that I am aware of. One has rubber wheels and paint apps on both the cab/Magnus' face and on the big bot/Ultra Magnus' face (basically a white version of Prime). The other version has cheaper plastic wheels and far fewer paint apps. So it just depends on which version you get.

and he'd also be the first Prime with a supermode.

If Prime borrowed Magnus Trailer he would have just been Ultra Magnus. The exso suit covered the whole Prime mold. There's be no difference. Magnus wore it and it got him nowhere but blown to peices.

I knew some one would say this. Before or after he was still G1 Prime. He still had a super mode. Rodimus didn't have one. So he is still the first Prime to have a exterior armored body shell. Just to cover some things PM Prime wasn't on the US show but was on G1 commercials, he hosted a G1 cliff hanger show, the toy came out during G1 and was the same character.

Ug. 

 

Diaclone Powered Convoy was still cool, with the battle mode.  Probably swap armor in that series.

 

Yea, 2 versions of the original TF Magnus, rubber and paint vs plastic and plain. 

 

I have a bunch of extra Magnus G1 trailers, think I have to break out the paint and make some custom trailers (made one before for the diaclone one, got the blue prime with black legs long before I pieced together the rest, and used that till I got the trailer, and then repainted it a bit to be Primes...would be cool to have one for the black Prime - scourge as well, so I need one more paint job.)

 

There is a theory on why we never got to see Magnus in cab robot, its because he was all white and did not want to get dirty.  Inside the suit, he stayed nice and clean.
