Major reason for g1ers NOT to hate Beast Machines

Recommended Posts

My ONLY problem with Beast Machines was that immediately after explaining that they no longer needed activation codes to transform, Primal started the trend of saying "I AM TRANSFORMED!" every time he did so.  "We don't have to say 'Maximize!' to transform anymore guys, now all we have to do is loudly and obnoxiously state the obvious!" :roll

Other than that, it was a great show.  :thumb

Great point.

But every kids show needs some sort of catch-phrase and that one fit this show pretty well.

I liked it well enough, but I'd've prefered a fourth season of BW.

At Botcon this year someone took one of those dancing flowers and stuck a picture of botania's head on it.

i know it was frikin hilarious :rofl  :rofl

Geeze you know I have been talking about how much I hate it, but now that I read all this, I think I like it again. lol. I'm so fickle when it comes to Beast Machines. I think I do need to watch it again.

someone mentioned how it parrelled G1 and I think that is really true.  You have the first half of G1, which plays it pretty safe as far as Sat morning toons go, and then the movie happened and it changed, and they lost viewers and interest, although from a storytelling standpoint the show improved 100% IMO

I still think BW is 100% better then BM but it really wasn't a bad show, at least it took a more mature approach to TF which is more then I can say for the new Transformer shows.  But still you have some huge shift in how the story is told, and most people have a hard time adapting.  Cheetor was the new Rodimus and I didn't even realize it.  (runs to go find my old Cheetor figures)

See if they would have brought in Hot Rod in the first part of G1 before the movie, I think kids would have taken to him better, or if they had just given him a mask over his face like optimus it would have been great (don't tell me you haven't drawn an Op mask on Roddy before).  He looks great with a mask.

"I am transformed" wasn't an activation code, as you saw with Rattrap. It was a reference to the Maximals' focus and discipline -- they said "I am transformed" not just to indicate that they had converted to robot mode, but that they had *internally* transformed as well by getting in touch with their sparks. Which is what allowed them to transform in the first place. (Hence the glowy-ness).

I realize that it may have seemed like just another activation code, but that little phrase was meant to be an indicator of what was going on with the Maximals, internally -- and perhaps spiritually. The words by themselves accomplished nothing. They were just a way of keeping the audience focused on the method they were now using to transform.

BTW you'll notice that they eventually "master" the technique and don't say that anymore in the second season.

"Amen"

I'll always hate BM.  I can put aside my reasons for hating BM as a G1 fan, and of the concept of alien, sentient, robots with their civilization, which were absolutely shattered by BM.  I can put that aside and still hate BM for the simple fact that I liked Beast Wars.  Instead of continuation of BW on Cybertron, we got this piece of crap called Beast Machines.

Never really thought of that before, but you are right. I definitely see the similarity b/w the characters and their development.

I did like Hot Rod but didn't really like Rodimus Prime. I sorta liked BW Cheetor (a little annoying at times, but overall ok), but I really liked BM Cheetor. Interesting how that works out. The BM Cheetor mentality should have gone into Rodimus, that would have greatly improved the G1 seasons 3 and 3.5.

Also the introduction of Hot Rod and the other movie characters in season 2 would have helped quite a lot, good point. That probably would have helped the acceptance of Rodimus similarly to how it helped the acceptance of BM Cheetor's shift in personality.
