Alternators VTEC (Still in Progress)

Recommended Posts

For the roof holes use some Squadron Puddy and sand it down lightly and repaint the roof if your going for the Solid Red roof.

Or use some Clear epoxy if you want to do a tinted glass top.

Can you get that putty at like AC Moore or Michaels?

Thats probably gonna be the last part I finish...right now, I'm just working on the smaller pieces.

I just finished painting the seats with nickel shimmer.  I chose nickel shimmer because my interior is called "titanium" and is like a weird nickel looking gray...

I painted the handle to the nightstick, and I painted the blue pieces on the gun in nickel shimmer as well...up next is painting the upper and lower arms along with the feet.  Saving the body till late in the game...

I also decided that I might actually go with a Sideswipe head...I'll have to hollow out the ball joint a little to make it fit.

I have a junker Prowl now...so I'm messign aroudn with the soldering iron trick to see if I can pop a few pins out without damaging the toy...

Curious. I know you're not using them, but are Prowl's lightbars molded in clear red plastic, or are they painted?

Be sure to paint the hood hinges black so they dont stick out so much. That's one of the things I wish was done on BT Prowl.

very cool. I like having an alternator of my own car (smokescreen/sideswipe).

might i suggest to paint all the pieces at the same time that are the same color... just a thought.

can't wait to see it when it's finished.

Alright...small update on my VTEC/Sideswipe custom...finished the front bumper/side fenders...looks pretty good with the hood on it and everything.

I also used some nickel shimmer for the upper arms, the handle on the nightstick, and parts of the engine.  The cool thing about the nickel shimemr paint is that it really gave the engine...the "engine" look.

I have also finished painting the feet, and I did paint the lower arms, but I didn't like how they turned out.  I also took a picture of my license plate this morning, so that I can make a label out of it, and put it on good ol' VTEC here...

Sureshot:  I try to paint as many piecs at the same time...but I have such a small area to work with.  I imagine I should that way the paint on all of the pieces will be at the desired consistency and shade...(I guess that depends on how much you shake it)  As of right, I don't see any shade differences in person...but I guess in a picture it can look a little weird.

MasterofPuppets:  I actually kinda liek the BT Prowl approach of leaving the hood hinges painted.  I'll have to photoshop what it would look like painted black to see if I would like it like that...

theplasticone:  I believe the lights are molded in transparent red plastic...

The pics...damn the front bumper was a pain in the @$$...

looking good Squall! Keep up the good work

Wow.  Nice job there, Squall.  The paint job on the front and the bonnet looks incredibly clean. :thumb

Michael's should have the puddy i mentioned but if not a local Hobby shop should have it or a close equivalent, Testors modling puddy.

The epoxy you can get at Wallgreens or any hardware store there is a varity of epoxies so choose the one that you feel is best Ie: quick drying, color matching, etc...

Well, I have managed to figure out how to get that stubborn pin out...it wasn't easy...but at least its done.

What I did, was I heated the pin up with a soldering iron, and quickly hammered the pins from the outside of Prowl's body inwards...once one was hammered all the way in...the other side can just be slid off...

I have also had some success in adding headlights to VTEC...I really like how they look! I used two white LEDs which turned out a little more bluish, and wired them to a keyless entry battery CR2025...I'm going to try and mount the battery permanently in the chest. If I can figure it out, it works...awesome, if it doesn't, its no big deal to me...cause really I just wanted to make my car an Alternator...at least maybe smeone thats a little more in tune with electronics can work to make something like this!

I have finished 90% of the external car pieces...all painted in red. As soon as I feel they are good enought to assemble...I will begin work on the interior...(still gotta find a putty to fill in the roof where I removed the lightbar...
