first impressions of the cartoon

From what I've seen of Cybertron I still honestly believe Armada is a better serries in every concievable way. Beast Wars was of course superior but seeing as it's altogether a different approach altogether I'll base this argument purely on what originated in Japan.

Rid was fun and purposefully campy and brought back the TFs as vehicles. Nough said.

Armada/Energon. While I really enjoyed the character development, and coherent story arcs in Armada, Energon fell flat almost right away. True the animation in Armada was subpar what was done in Energon with the 3d cel shading was far worse. Not only does the animation suck even more but the movements, and transformations are choppy and the fast edits make every fight sequence a spetacular mess. I had no problem understanding what was happening in Armada but though there's a story being told in Energon it's mostly just one battle after another. What sucked worse is the recycling of evey transformation/powerlinking sequence with the powerlinking symbol behind the character. After the second/third ep I was like I get it already. As bad as it was from what I've seen of it Energon was still tolerable.

Cybertron however. I honestly tried to give this show a chance but each installment get's more painful to watch. First off the show has decent charater design and an interesting enough premis but there are just some things I can't get past making this as I've said unbearable. Surprisingly for me it's not the animation, or mediocre voice acting despite the obnoxious accents. It's not even the kids even though I find them the most obnoxiously annoying human characters to date. For me personally it's the over emphasis of each characters repeated transformation. After the first or second time of seeing Optimus Prime combine with his super mode it get's tiring and redundant after the fifth or sixth time. I haven't watched it for a good month now but I caught the end the other night and the cartoon is still pimping Prime's super mode like it's the coolest thing in the world, and what's worse the sequence is now longer because Leobreaker can now form an arm Prime uses for all of 10 seconds before Megatron retreats. I am also sick to death of the repeated sequence where the cyber key drops out of the sky and activates the characters hidden feature. This gimick is so poorly scripted it hurts. Minicons were bad but they were somewhat explained. In Cybertron the character finds themselves in a given situation where it just drops out of the sky and grants them the power to succeed.

I've already seen all the eps on Hasbros site and I'm losing interest with every given episode because everything which made Armad/Energon tolerable is instead sacrificed for flashy OMFG THESE TOYS ARE AMAZING!!!! BUY THEM NOW AND UNLOCK THE CYBER KEY POWER OF EACH ONE OF THEM!!!!  approach.

As much as I love the direction Hasbro's taken the toys in I can't help but loose a little respect for each one when ever I see the show. :tfmad

Cybertron isn't that bad.. its just not to incredibly good either. Cyberkeys = teh lame .. Toys look neat though

every time I see Leobreaker become Prime's arm and he puts it in the air, You all should know what I think. "I HAVE THE POWER!!!" I wonder why Scourge wasn't given Snarl's voice. When Scourge looks (facially) and acts like Dinobot(Honor and tradition wise).

yeah, the cyber key/transformation sequence things are a bit overdone but at least they look cool and in the end, you have a nice video you can put together.

And they make great wallpapers too!

okay.....heres what I think.

I seen a few episodes just to hear what the commotion was all about. From what i saw from the previous trainwrecks of a chain series, i noticed the usual "trends" that just piss me off. Yes, they put way too muxh effort into body designs to look EXACTLY like the toy. much like people are saying as the giant commercial. The n i see that they made new voices for characters that survived the previous series. What bugged me the most was giving Jetfire a completlt different accent. when did he become austrailian? Anyways, on to the kids. They were a pain to watch and listen to. They were a horrible diversion to the story and they didnt seem to have any relevance to the plot other to get in the way of the autobots on their pointless quest to find their lost "car keys" THEYRE UNDER THE COUCH! I think that they should quit ahead while theyre at it and create a series deathmatch between cartoons like that show on mtv. Now that ia great programming!!!!

Cybertron is an okay series, much better than Energon.

But is it too much to ask for every line NOT to be cliché? Every bit of dialogue is something I've heard a thousand times before in movies and in TV shows.

Is it wrong for something slightly original. I can die a happy man if I never hear most of those lines ever again...  :roll

Even if the plot is intact in Cybertron, the dialogue isn't. I heavily suggest you give the GF fansubs a try, if you haven't already (considering you're a ROD fan, you're probably quite open minded when it comes to fansubs, yeah?).

Yeah, I bought a GF dvd and it's so much less annoying than Cyb. I rather read than have to listen to the voices and follow the storyline. It takes the pain away.  :puke

I've been watching the Galaxy Force subs since Episode 21 I think, so my comment was only directed at the dub. I know I don't really need to watch the dub anyway but I'm really just curious to see what they'll do with it. Its almost like watching a completley different show.

Here's a something. Crosswise is apparently called Smokescreen in the Cybertron.

If that's true, that's pretty damn cool. Personally I would have called him Jazz (visor eyes, see?), though.
