Galaxy Force & Cybertron Differences

Recommended Posts

Sorry if this has already been covered, but the search is down, sooo...

For all of you that have any Galaxy Force figs, namely Galaxy Conoy, Vector Prime, Dreadrock, Megatron and Starscream, is there any die cast parts on them, and if so, will we be seeing any metal on the Cybertron releases? I'm wondering if we're going to be seeing the whole Alt vs. BT build quality differences (though, of course, not to the same extent) where the GF releases are much nicer while and the Cybertron releases could be thin plastic. I'm thinking the paint apps will differ, but if anyone can point that out as wrong, go right ahead-- it will only make my wallet happier. ;)

Thanks.

The reason there's a difference between Alts and BT's is becasue a BT costs about 2x the price.

Metal, even the zinc type metal found in a Binaltech is costly to produce.

Quality differences between Takara  and Hasbro GF/Cybertron toys will be for the very most part, negligable.

In fact, recent apparent leeks on Takara protos would suggest that they're using the same production line as Hasbro nowadays.

And I don't know where you pulled the idea of thinner plastic pieces from, as that has never happened in the past, and would require spending a whole lot more money in the first place to create new molds with those specifications.

Most of the differences are going to be in terms of paint applications and base plastic colours.  Scourge, for example, is more of a fiery yellow, whereas Flame Convoy is more orangey.

However, the Mega-sized Starscream has battery slots, but no electronics to make use of them, which likely means that Takara gutted them yet again.

That's what it seems like, but I haven't seen any photos of Cybertron protos out of boxes...

You have any GF? Is there any metal used on them?

Also, in terms of the price, I still assume that Cybertron will be at least a quarter less than the GF figure's equevialant Yen value, which could mean different quality... am I off base with that figure? Leader-class Cyb. is $40... GF is about $55 in Japan, no? I guess that's 20%, which would be enough to cheap-out on paint apps at least...

Why always with the negative connotations towards Hasbro's end of things?  For Energon, Hasbro's was still cheaper, and their figures had electronics whereas the Superlink ones did not (the Autobots, at least.  Decepticon figures retained their electronics on both sides of the Pacific).  And at the same time, a number of them had more paint apps (eg, Energon Inferno has a gold paint app on the tech detailing on his left shoulder.  Superlink Inferno has none, and no other paint apps that are different to make up for it), while once again, being sold for cheaper, relatively.

And as for the metal content: screws and hinge-pins only.  None of the figures use die-cast metal, unless you're talking about the THS-01 Galaxy Convoy figure, which is a specialty item and doesn't count towards the mainline.  Although, technically, Cybertron Optimus Prime does in fact have less metal content on him than Galaxy Convoy, because his wings have been remolded to be break-away hinges, instead of being held together with a metal pin.  Makes sense, though, less likely to break that way.  Unlike the GF version, where if it falls hard on that wing, say goodbye.

GF are all plastic...

the difference would be paint apps, names and faction symbols. Certain bots have no faction symbol in GF, but on the protos for hasbro i've seen, they've put symbols on vector prime, landbullet, thundercracker, inch up.

and oh yeah, a gender change for a certain character =)

Are you serious? There's a reason the term "HasbroHasbroHasbroHasbroHasbro" has been coined in the past couple of years. There's obvious differences betweeen the way Hasbro and Takara see their target markets, the latter acknowledging that there are adult collectors to pander to... The TFC and MPC are obvious examples. And without the obvious comment of "But Hasbro did it too", Takara has been releasing reissues for much more time than Hasbro, and I *seriously* doubt they would have gone ahead with the Commemorative Series had there not already been product that could easily be moved.

And since we're talking about the TFC, please notice the differences in the line versus the CS-- better packaging, better weapons, working weapons, better figures. Was hound released in CS? No, and I always believed that that was because of monetary descisions. And I could be completely wrong about that.

And yes-- I do realize that BT is twice as expensive as Alt because the metal cost more, and, as I stated in my first post, I don't expect to see examples of differerentiation that stark between Cybertron and GF. I just brought it up as an example. And yes, I know that HBS is not indicitive of the line.

And really-- why the hating on Hasbro-- I just believe Takara supplies better product. I'm always happier with a Takara release than a Hasbro one. I'm not trying to step on your stuff, but that's just my views of the whole HasTak situation. Sorry if ya take it as a hate-a-thon.

Cool, thanks. That's exactly the response I was alooking for with the first post. Now that means I can buy the Hasbro version and not have to pay the steep hikeup on the GF figs.

Thanks!

Rock. Thanks. Yeah, I'm not too excited about VP getting a faction symbol, but since out of that bunch he's the only one I'm getting then I can take it.... it's my *wallet* that can't take a bunch of GF figs.... so it's just fine with a faction symbol thankyouverymuch! ;)  :tflaugh

Wow, that's good to hear!

One of the things that's keeping me from getting the GF stuff was that some of the TF's don't have faction symbols, such as the Speedia inhabitants.  But I prefer my Vector Prime sans symbol because it makes him look like he was created before the Autobot/Decepticon factions started.

Can't wait for Cybertron Thundercracker!
