the tf fandom is bitterly divided

I just think it's funny how insular this whole discussion is. Hasbro's primary goal is to keep their brand fresh and marketable. Which means that they're going to change things up every now and then. And they're not doing so because of the fans. Now sure, they're quite conscious of what the fans want, but ultimately -- these are toys for kids, and if Hasbro loses sight of that and starts exclusively catering to us, they might as well stop selling them in TRU b/c kids won't buy them.

Here's my thought on "preferring a series": if you like Transformers Version [X] so much, then buy the toys from that series and get the episodes on DVD (if possible) and STFU.

I don't agree at all, MH. true, the primary focus of ONE of the toylines is for kids, but they are focusing more and more on the fans, due to the growing numbers of them. if what you said was true, do you think that all that Botcon info would have been revealed? that the 10th BW anniversary line would be so geared toward fans?

i'd say that they mostly ignore comments on the mainline/s, but on stuff like Alternators, they listen as much as possible.

Edit: I would say that in general, TFs are an all ages line, rather than a for kids line. I would say that a for kids line would be sometihng like many of the Yu-Gi-Oh, Pokemon, Teen Titans and The Batman(Not to be confused with Batman Begins.) toys.

yeah, I don't think many 5-8 year olds are dieing to get a transmutate figure.

I didn't hear anyone ask for an alt prime ;)

For one thing, Hasbro knows that adult fans still buy the new toys, so yes it makes sense for them to announce everything that they did. There are tons of people on this board who collect toys from every series from G1 to Cybertron.

Re: the BW reissues, of course they're geared towards BW fans -- by definition an anniversary is a commemoration of a past event. Just as 20th Anniversary Optimus Prime was geared towards G1 fans as opposed to younger kids.

Without a doubt. The Alternators line exists because of older G1 fans, period. But they're really not pushing that line the way they are with Cybertron, are they.

It certainly has become that, but only because the brand has retained older fans. The future viability of the TF brand is dependent upon attracting *new* fans........... i.e. kids (which we all were once).

I wouldn't say that the TF brand is dependent on attracting new fans (although that doesn't hurt...). GI Joe is still alive and kicking without any real attempt to attract new, younger fans.

is it...?

(seriously asking; I know jack sh*t about GI Joe)

they did have that venom vs valor CGI movie.

i think that the creators fo the new Joe line would disagree

I guess what I'm getting at is that there has been no cartoon since the original. There have been different toy lines released, but Hasbro keeps returning to the 3 3/4" figures in different incarnations. They must be selling, otherwise Hasbro wouldn't keep bringing them back. A buddy of mine is a big GI Joe collector and has been going to their conventions for the past 10 years. He sees younger kids there, but most of them look like they're the children of older collectors.

I see what you're saying Hornet and honestly I'm one of those fans that couldn't give two $%!#s about the arguing. Granted I do think that Armada sucked and that Beast Machines was a waste of CGI, but I still hold the series in high regards. I like the toys, live for the comics and the TV shows are still saved on VHS tapes. The thing that I always listen to is the character stuff. Who's named what, who's become 'what' now, so forth so on. I listen to my older brother go on a rant about "how his childhood is bastardized" by such things as Force Chips. All things aside its still what we know and what we liked in the first place that makes us all fans. If you want real blood for blood arguing, ask the MAHQ guys about Gundam. Then you're really in for an earfull of crap.

:clap  :pfx well said yo! I'm all fror fandom love and peace...does this make some sort of collector hippie? eh...it's all good.
