The Best News from BotCon 2005 is.....

the tf fandom is not a collective organism, it is as bitterly divided as the UN. while BW 10th is good for the BW fandom, the filler line is good for the G1 fandom.

And the Commemorative Series Line wasn't?  What about Alternators?  Or Armada? Energon?  And now Cybertron?  Were they not good enough for the G1 fandom?

Seriously, the G1 rubes have got their glory, it's time to move on to something else.

There are about six dozen Transformers items being sold by Hasbro between now and Summer 2007. I suppose it's too much to hope that you stop being a whiny little girl long enough to explore the possibility of spending your money on the other five dozen items being sold. Thought not.

Any word on where the BW items will be sold?

Everywhere that sells Transformers.

go back and read all of the thread, the yare target exclusives.

I read the thread. No one from Hasbro has said they were store exclusives. One Target employee saw them in his store's system and the rumors spread from there.

because Target Exclusives are just that: exclusive to target, not even available online. why should i give a damn about Hasbro when they do this Blot half-assed?

Think Hasbro has said that all the distributors like having the exclusives, and they're the ones with the distributing power.  Without them, there likely wouldn't be toy releases at all.  Course there're other downsides to this besides not being able to find the product through other channels.  The distributor could botch their part of the job and take the exclusive line down.  From the BotCon reports, it seems like the commemorative series, exclusive to TRU, is getting killed in the US since TRU wants to back out now because they aren't selling (pick whichever link you think failed along the production/marketing chain between Hasbro and TRU).  So TRU doesn't wanna carry the line, but since nobody else can either, then we now get nothing after Astrotrain.  But if anything, you should blame the distributor in question, Target in this case, since they're the ones who're pushing for the exclusives.

Of course, Target itself does have online sales too.

Just because Mouth04 of Target found these in the Target computer doesn't mean they're Target exclusives.  These will be available everywhere no doubt.  I didn't read any reports from BotCon that said these were exclusive to Target.

Am I the only one that didn't like transmutate? :wtf

G1 is everywhere in Transformers.  Now they're proposing a 'filler line' that will basically be yet ANOTHER G1esque adventure.  Starscream an F-15?  Megatron a GUN!?  WHAT!?

NO, the best news is all about Beast Wars and its 10th Anniversary.  The packaging is sharp (although very Cybertron-ish), the figures have more accurate paint schemes, and we're getting BRAND NEW figures in terms of Transmutate, Optimus Primal, AND Megatron.

Anyone with me on this?

*is with EM*

There's been a LOT of attention given to G1 and G1 homages and G1 updates and G1 the flamethrower and G1 the toilet paper and G1 the coloring book...

And just think, Beast Wars has only been around for ten years, and check out the influence it's had in the fandom. Ten years after G1 started, G2 was crashing and burning. One might even think BW has been more influential than G1 was. :schin *flame baits*

the only real lasting influence from BW that I can see is the whole spark idea. can you point out some others, MH?

as much as I prefer BW(At least toywise.... I don't remember enough of the show to compare it to G1), it seems ot me at least that G1 has had far more influence.

Edit: I'd say that out of all of the series', RID currently is the most influential. The toy designs(Well, the new molds, anyway. not any fo the recycled ones from BW, G1, G2 and BM) and cartoon design can still be seen today, obviously.

The fact we're sitting here talking about Transformers is a lasting influence.  Transformers was dead with G2, but Hasbro went with a radically different approach and made Beast Wars.  A show that was thought to flop, actually turned out to be the very thing that was needed to bring Transformers out of the grave and spur 10 years of continuous Transformers shows and products.  Granted, there was a lot of G1 used in it, it still had its niche.
