I know it's a kid show, and I do let a number of smaller holes slide without thinking about it.  The thing about the TM Driver is that a hole that big is just out of character for the writers.

The first rule of script writing is that exposition is ghey. And that's what this is. It's not a plot hole. A plot hole is taking someone from Point A to Point C without mentioning Point B. The existence of the TM2 driver is assumed, as with the Matrix and Unicron in TF:TM. So you didn't see where it came from. It doesn't matter because that's a prelude to the actual story, which isn't about the TM2 driver but is about TM2 Dinobot and TM2 Cheetor.

BTW this is the same thing I have to keep telling people when they say that Megatron's virus in BM was a huge plot hole. It's not a plot hole if it takes place prior to the actual plot.

But the virus takes place before the series starts, not in the middle of the season ;)

Except that we see into Optimus' chest at least once in the series, and there isn't a matrix or a Matrix compartment in it.

Within the context of TF:TM its existence is assumed, which is what I was talking about. As we all know, there was no significant G1 story continuity -- certainly not between the TV show and the movie.

Again, within the context of the episode, the TM2 driver's existence is assumed. BW episodes followed an overarching story continuity, but they were still written to work as standalone episodes. What you're talking about is something that happened "between episodes". It would be another matter if the TM2 driver were to mysteriously appear right in the middle of an episode.

IMO, it's still a cop out, and the story would've benifited from a 30 second scene of Inferno finding it in a cave like the 2nd golden disc.

It's always funny to me how fanboys crave exposition, as though that were.... interesting. Can't you just accept that something *is* there without having to ask all the "why" and "how" questions all the time?

My seven-year-old asks questions about story details like that, like "where did that come from?" I ask him "well, where do *you* think it came from?" and he starts using his imagination and coming up with these fun little stories about stuff. It never occurs to him to be pissed about the fact that it wasn't explained in the episode.

And yes, he's the target demographic for these shows, just as a reminder.

kthx

so if you were watching an adult TV show like "Rescue Me", and a character appeared out of nowhere with no introduction but eveyone else on the show acted like nothing changed, that wouldn't bother you?

The main reason the TM driver bothers me is becuase it and the Covenant of Primus are the only huge plot holes in the last half of BW.

how was the covonent of primus a plot hole. he said only two exist, one was abord the ark. the we see megs has one so obviously it was abord the nemisis. they even say that theyre datatracks.

If you say so. To me, the cop-out is the fact that such a device even exists in the first place. I think it would have made more sense if the TM2 technology had been all Megatron's doing. As was mentioned earlier in this thread, there wasn't anything uniquely Vok-ish about the quantum surge that transmetallized the Maximals & Preds.

That would've been good too.  See, that's why they shouldn't have just let it appear.

and what shajaki said about the C of P being explained:

Well my point was just that it would have been better for it not to appear at all in the first place. It had already been established in the previous episode that Megatron had come up with this TM2 technology. The TM driver could have instead been the core of whatever machine Megatron used to TM2-ize those raptors and Dinobot. They could even have kept the same story with Blackarachnia, only tweaking the circumstances slightly so that it wouldn't be required to start spinning and levitating and sh*t all of a sudden. :tflaugh

I always thought that Megatron found the Covenant of Primus on the Nemesis, or he had it on his ship the whole time. What's I'm REALLY wondering, is where he found that wig!

I was actually watching those episodes last night and I have the impression that OP found his copy on the Ark (it says one of the two copies was on the Ark) and I am assuming the other was on the Nemesis. So part of that hole is not explained anyway.

Yeah, the transmetal 2 driver is the biggest plot hole in the series. I mean, the aliens didn't make them transmetals, it was athe quantum surge resulting from Primal detonating a transwarp cell inside the planet buster.

I don't get why stuff like that bothers people. So they never explained where it came from. Does it really matter?

yes. it's just as bad as the Matrix coming out of nowhere, or how we don't know where the season 2 autobots came from. it was a stupid desision to leave it out. It would have taken a five second piece of dialouge with Megatron muttering to himself how his finding it was a great windfall for him or something.

its pretty obvious where the bots came from in season two, the last episode of season 1 explained that, after the humans gave the autobots enought energy to fix their ship and to replinish cybertron they left and went back to cybertron then came back to earth in season 2
