So I watched the deleted scene from BW

Yeah, the transmetal 2 driver is the biggest plot hole in the series. I mean, the aliens didn't make them transmetals, it was athe quantum surge resulting from Primal detonating a transwarp cell inside the planet buster.

I don't get why stuff like that bothers people. So they never explained where it came from. Does it really matter?

yes. it's just as bad as the Matrix coming out of nowhere, or how we don't know where the season 2 autobots came from. it was a stupid desision to leave it out. It would have taken a five second piece of dialouge with Megatron muttering to himself how his finding it was a great windfall for him or something.

:pfx  Even if it wasn't revealed in feral scream, it's origin could've been explained better in later episodes when it played a role.  Or, including 5 minutes of Megs finding it and discovering how it could improve their bodies could've really made the feral scream 2 parter much better, IMO.

It's always funny to me how fanboys crave exposition, as though that were.... interesting. Can't you just accept that something *is* there without having to ask all the "why" and "how" questions all the time?

My seven-year-old asks questions about story details like that, like "where did that come from?" I ask him "well, where do *you* think it came from?" and he starts using his imagination and coming up with these fun little stories about stuff. It never occurs to him to be pissed about the fact that it wasn't explained in the episode.

And yes, he's the target demographic for these shows, just as a reminder.

kthx

youre good at saying stfu without actually saying it. :tflaugh  and i usually just make up something to answer the unanswered things like that. until joining this forum anyways... usually if i do ask about this stuff its just cuz there quite possibly is an answer about some things if you look hard enough.

That was a stellar reply, in fact.  Maybe I'm absent-minded, but when I first watched the episode air (when I was 17; I didn't catch the show in its first run), the Megatron spark problem didn't even occur to me.  I was too busy being amazed watching everything unfold.

so if you were watching an adult TV show like "Rescue Me", and a character appeared out of nowhere with no introduction but eveyone else on the show acted like nothing changed, that wouldn't bother you?

The main reason the TM driver bothers me is becuase it and the Covenant of Primus are the only huge plot holes in the last half of BW.

How did anything I wrote give you that impression?

maybe I read too much into it.

Here's kind of my basic point:

Adults are capable of abstract thought and all that, and tend to wonder how things happen when they're not explained (and get distracted when things aren't explained). Therefore, when you're writing a TV show for adults, you have to make sure that the story satisfies on an adult level. When you're writing a show for kids, your primary concern is more immediate -- is there enough "happening" in the show to keep them interested, etc. The plot lines are a lot simpler because 1) kids would get lost, and 2) they simply don't care as much as we do.

This is a television show that was written and produced for school-age boys (and by "school" I mean "elementary school"). Unless you are willing to accept that, and watch the show on that level, you are never going to be satisfied.

I know it's a kid show, and I do let a number of smaller holes slide without thinking about it.  The thing about the TM Driver is that a hole that big is just out of character for the writers.

The first rule of script writing is that exposition is ghey. And that's what this is. It's not a plot hole. A plot hole is taking someone from Point A to Point C without mentioning Point B. The existence of the TM2 driver is assumed, as with the Matrix and Unicron in TF:TM. So you didn't see where it came from. It doesn't matter because that's a prelude to the actual story, which isn't about the TM2 driver but is about TM2 Dinobot and TM2 Cheetor.

BTW this is the same thing I have to keep telling people when they say that Megatron's virus in BM was a huge plot hole. It's not a plot hole if it takes place prior to the actual plot.

The existence of the TM2 driver is assumed, as with the Matrix

Except that we see into Optimus' chest at least once in the series, and there isn't a matrix or a Matrix compartment in it.
