Rodimus Prime

Recommended Posts

cartoon grimlock does not make for a good leader, unless he lept his brain from when he made the technobots, other wise he was way too dumb to be leader, and ultra magnus wasn't built sturdy enough to be leader didn't you see how he fell apart from the con attack in the movie, at least roddy had the circuits to challenge galvy in the 1st place  :clap not to mention snatching the matrix from him and finally throwing him out of uni's eye

To be fair in the origional draft of TFTM Ultra Magnas was drawn and courtered by four sweeps instead of just getting shot by one.

i recall seeing a bunch of things supposed to be in the movie. sad they cut them out. one thing i remember is um driving up, tracks and someone else drive off him and begin a fight with devastator during the attack on autobot city. i think they were story bord pics. pretty cool stuff.

I liked Rodimus Prime...I remember as a kid liking him a lot more then I do now. As i rewatched the season 3 dvds i got the overall feeling that he appeared a lot less then optimus did...Seems odd since he was the leader, and when he was there he seemed like a seconday character. Crazy Galvatron was the one I didnt like. I missed megatron.

That is one thing that struck me as odd about Season 3. In the older episodes, you could pretty much count on the first shot being of Autobot HQ, followed by an interior shot where someone's saying "hey Prime check this out." And it goes from there. Predictable, yes; repetitive, yes; but hey. The Ark came to feel like home after a while b/c the audience spent so much time there.

In Season 3, it's like... okay where are we today? And are we still watching out for the Decepticons, or are we just f*cking around on Cybertron? And where's Rodimus, and why doesn't anyone ever consult him before running off on some mission? Rodimus Prime was weakened as a leader in part because he wasn't treated as one by the other characters. There were entire episodes where Rodimus didn't appear *at all*. Think of how many episodes there were in seasons 1 & 2 where you never saw Optimus Prime once...... (there actually is one, but you get the point).

Again, it just seems to me like his character was incredibly poorly handled. Yeah sure, there were other new characters to establish, but you would think that Rodimus Prime would be the priority for the writers. He really didn't seem to be at all.

  X-Bob

He was still shot by four sweeps, the way it was made.  He kind of just stood there and took it, though, depending on the Matrix to save him (and the others).

I don't like Rodimus Prime.  I have his toy, and I think it sucks.  Hot Rod was acceptable as a character, though.  I'd like to trade my RP toy for a Hot Rod, that reminds me.  Hm...

I would LOVE, LOVE, LOVE a Hot Rod that A) accomodates a Matrix and B) transforms into Rodimus Prime.

See, I think one thing they goofed up on was that the Rodimus action figure should have been a Hot Rod repaint/remold to begin with.

A souped up racecar with an RV attachment.

That's my ideal Rodimus altmode.

Not quite a truck but a beefy racecar with a trailer that snaps over him as vehicle-mode armor.

Actually...

I think my ideal is a Hot Rod with a trailer attachment whose Super-mode is Rodimus Prime (built with the trailer).

This is what I think:  Rodimus Prime as a character created out of necessity based on the marketing decision by Hasbro to kill off Optimus Prime to rejuvenate the Transformers line. Which is why in TF:TM, Rodimus is so powerful and dispatches Galvatron with relative ease.

However when the the majority of the fans hated Rodimus replacing Optimus, Hasbro needed a way out so they made him a much weaker leader than he could have been, thus requiring the Rebirth of Optimus Prime to make things right.

Fun fact: Hasbro was originally NOT going to kill Optimus Prime in TF:TM, but decided to because they had done the same thing with Duke in the GI Joe movie (even though they ended up editing that to look like he hadn't died). They thought it'd be more EXTREEEEEEM or something.

And BTW let's not think that Hasbro intentionally decided to make Rodimus a lousy character. The problem was simply that he *was* one and they were like "crap we'd better bring back Optimus". The only episodes that bear the marks of Hasbro's change of mind are the edited Dark Awakening and (obviously) TRoOP.

However, in TFTM, the final line is "And the greatest leader of them all, Optimus Prime, will return!"  So they always intended to bring back Optimus.

Someone else meantioned Liono of the Thundercats as being a great leader. Well they must have forgoten that he too suffered from the inferiority to a previous leader syndrome. When they were leaving Thundara Jagga sent the ship off into space to prevent the enemies of the Thundercats from stopping the launch. Meanwhile Liono`s pod got cracked and he grew during his hyper sleep into an adult. In the first season he was far more wishy washy than Rodimus Prime ever was. Also lets not forget that Optimus was handed the Matrix by his commanding officer Sentinal Prime on his "death bed". So let`s just assume for a moment that Sentinal Prime hadn`t died in that battle. Well if he hadn`t died there then he would probably have been able to prevent Megs and his crew from over throwing the peacful leadership of the Autobots. As it happened though Sentinal did die and passed on the Matrix to his successor Orion Pax now Optimus Prime. And due to his in experience the Autobots were forced under by the more powerful and at that time better lead Decepticons. Over time Optimus learned leadership and became the compitent commander we`ve been celebrating him as for the last 21 yrs. That having been said if they would have given Rodimus Prime more time to develop he too would have become a greater leader like Optimus. Just look at his Energon counterpart. Now most ppl think there`s no connection between G1 and the newer series I however disagree. The newer series are kind of like the children and grandchildren of the warriors from the great war but for some reason every generation can only find conflict and never peace.

The final line?  What are you talking about?  Isn't it, "Till all are one?"
