half of the recent japanese TF shows have made the kids whiny little bastards. RID and GF used them properly, however. in GF, they are for the most part background characters. their function is to help the autobots cope with earth, give 'em ideas, and give encouragement. they actualyl serve a frigging purpose, and aren't annoying at all. from what little i've seen of Cybertron, it seems ot be the same, thank goodness.

 

as to the poll question, I'd say it depends on the show. BW and BM couldn't have worked with human characters, but G1 couldn't have worked without them.

I voted no, but I'd like the humans to have as little direct involvement as possible.

 

Making Kicker a superpowerful kid able to WIELD A FLIPPIN' HUGE SWORD and who was also the only one who could destroy the most powerful force in the universe (Unicron) was ridiculous.

 

So, limit the impact the kids have on the actual goings-on.

Of course there are those who say that humans are needed for kids to identify themselves with. (Or something like that.)

no, the real reason humans are in tf cartoons is because the writers don't know how to characterize the tf's so they need humans to drive the plot. if the cartoon got some decent writers, there would be no need for humans to act as characterization. BW had great characterization without any humans. but then again, the only reason there were no humans in BW is because of the limits of CGI, ergo, the writers were practically forced to focus more on the tf's. if a new show is animated, i can almost guaruntee that the writers will opt to use human characters for characterization since that's the easy route.

Maybe I like too many animes. But I have yet to see an american cartoon that's better than any one givin anime and hasn't started in Japan. Heck, even some of those americans ruined(*coughvoltroncough*)

Watch Justice League Unlimited, Sam & Max, Fairly Oddparents and batman: The animated series and STFU. those are better than most anime. again, I say most. i can think of a few anime(Gundam Wing, Cowboy Bebop, and i'm sure some others.) that pwn most US cartoons.

Seriously though dude.... you must not even be thinking of any of the classic American animation at all. Keep in mind that anime didn't even get started until the 70's, when American animation was in a huge decline. To be honest, I think American animation is already dead.... 2-D animation, that is. So it's kind of apples and oranges.

 

Personally, I'll take 1950's-era Looney Tunes over *anything*.
