Alternators Thrust

Recommended Posts

Just curious, when you say you can get a lot of this mold cheap, how cheap are you talking about?  K-B stores around me seem to have reduced what Alts they have to about $13, which is not bad.

But Imprezas do not have a stock color of "maroon" . . .

I want to keep my customs as close to factory models or real customs as possible.

Plus, I am not necessarily making a G1 clone.  Alternators to me isn't trying to copy G1 exactly.  Their roots are past TFs, but not necessairly having to copy G1 schemes down to the tacky stickers.

Whoops! Did i just say that G1 stickers were tacky?  I guess so! :tflaugh

I gotcha man ... point taken and a valid argument.  Hey I'm no G1 purist, although aside from Alternators that is the only other line I've ever collected.  I agree with you that they don't have to be perfect homages.  (I really lust for a yellow Tracks.)  Thrust, however, is my favorite seeker!  I provide a few arguments for you that may liberate your color selections in the future:

The Mazdaspeed RX-8 used for Shockwave is not an official color.  That Mazda blue is quite a bit more medium.  Has/Tak darkened the color and threw some purple hue into it to make it resemble Shockwave a bit more:

Certainly Decepticharge isn't an official color.  He most closely resembles a Top Secret car that some 16 year old ricer got ahold of.

And just for fun since Lobo made Skywarp look so tidy out of Battle Ravage, the C5 did come in a maroon. ;)

Still a very quality paint job!  Keep up the nice work.

Paint looks very clean.  Not bad overall.  It doesn't really jump out at me as being Thrust though.  I can understand and appreciate you wanting to keep the car mode as close to a real car as possible.  But how about adding some maroon and white accent to the bot mode a bit.  Maybe around the arms and legs, that way it won't effect the look of the alt mode but still give a bit more of a homage to G1 Thrust.

Don't know if you remember my King Starscream, but basically it was a silver corvette.  In bot mode though, I added yellow, blue and red to make him look more Starscreamish.

Looks Sweet. But I agree maroone would have made him feel like Thrust.

One obsticle I have is that I use Testors acrylics and not the enamels.  The variety of paints are hard to find as it is.  I am thinking about adding some black to him at some point.  Still researching paint schemes and such.  So it's not necessarily a matter of "liberation," but rather what is available to me or not.  I have a lot of customs planned so I want to move on and come back to this one too.  I think taking breaks and then coming back with a fresh approach is always a smart thing to do.

I want to reprint some of my labels as well.  My color ink cartridge is out :tfsad  I have some things in store when I get ink cartridges  :tfevil

Thanks for all of the feedback guys!  More on the way!

This is where my paint alterations are leaning towards.  I thought about doing an orangish paint scheme on his "abs"

Screamer looks good man.  I am leaning towards doing one of these myself, but I'm gonna wait and see.  I want to something a bit different with him since he is the "leader" of sorts.

My mother-in-law can get them at the KayBee Outlet near her for $13 each and a second for half off.  Sweet deal!

To be honest it is a very clean paint job however I would recomend using spray paints take a walk down the spray paint isle at Walmart and you`ll find just about every color imaginable and spraypainting is much faster. As for the labels I suggest going to reprolabels.com and getting some from there. Also you`re right about the head but if I were to make Alt seekers I would try to use jets and build bot modes to fit them. Err well that`s what I`m planning for after I finish with my Rodimus.

I like it! Also you might consider Swindle. His head is /perfect/ for a seeker methinks. And I agree, he doesn't have to be maroon. Maybe he decided he /likes/ red =P

Rodimus: I'm also about to start working on scratchbuilding jet seekers. I'm working on my first kitbashes right now. Yeah... 3 at a time. I do a little here, a little there. I get better with everything I do. I'll make a thread soon with some WIP pics so you guys can give me your 2 (or possibly even 3 or 4) cents. I went 1:48 when buying model jets because I figured that'd make a bot about the same size as MP Prime. Not too horrendously huge, and still way bigger than the Alt. cars for a somewhat realistic scale. I got a Revell Yeager F-25 Eagle for my prototype, a new Revell F-15C for Screamer, an F-14D Super Tomcat for Skywarp, and I'm about to pick up the blue angels plane from Walmart for Thundercracker. But yeah I'm getting ahead of myself. I need some more practice first before jumping right in.

Well, as for spray paints, I am in an environment where I don't have a lot of freedom in terms of painting.  I live in the seminary's apartment complex and am kind of restricted from turning a room or even what space I have outside for a studio of sorts.  Plus, I am happy with the acrylic; I just want to find more colors.

I make my own labels.  I am just as satisfied with the quality that I can make myself.  Plus, with my customs, I can say I created all of the modifications.

I specifically wanted cars for these guys.  Again, I am not a G1 stickler with the Alternators line.  I think it's nice to see somethings other than the same old things.
