I understand people complaining about the cost, but a lot of time usually goes into them.

Anybody see my (relatively) lame MP UM trailer in the kitbash forum? I've probably put about 8-10 hours into that already. If I just charged for the paint, foam core, and toy car I bought for the wheels, the thing only costs $10. When I charge for the 15 hours of labor (which it'll invariably be when I'm done), Even at a minimum wage, I'd have to charge $90.

Who would pay that? Nobody! but I couldn't sell it for less in good conscience.

EDIT - Is my spelling an grammer errors always so bad? :D

I have no kitbashing skillz. Naturally, I'll satiate my needs with the assistance of someone else. I do so now and I imagine I'll be doing so in the future. Granted, one must pick and choose their supplier, but I think kitbashes are worth the cost.

It's kind of ironic you started this topic now, because I just bought one from Weirdo.  It's a Battle Damaged Smokescreen, so any scatches on it just make it that much better.  He charged me $25 total, which isn't bad considering he's shipping it from the netherlands to the :usa

There's also a Nemesis Prime on here I wouldn't mind getting....

If it looked good enough. I mean have you guys seen the Yamato repainted as G1 Jetfire? Who wouldn't buy this if they could afford it?

.....!!!!!!!!!!!! :drool Great... now I have to try and find someone to get me results like THAT. :P

I think straight repaints are cop outs.  The maker didn't really "bashed" different "kits" together, as the term suggests.

I'd love to buy some of the KITBASHES but price is usually a factor for me.  Which is sad because I know that there's a lot of work and time that is put into the KIT'S and it would be just great to own some of these origional pieces of pure art.  I'd be on the BUMBLEBEE and CLIFFJUMPER in a second if there were made with the BT/ALT idea in mind.  If I ever saw the GTI R32 in Green or blue incorporating these designs, they would be mine.  You hear that KITBASHERS?

I wish I had more time, guts and moolah to put into these 'BASHES.  Maybe after I move. :thumb

Now THAT is just pure love  :luv  I'd love to be able to do something like this.  And did you guys see the whole collection with JETFIRE included?  This is just soo impressive.  I'd add the AUTOBOT insig on the heat shield or on the side of his chestplate.  Now I'd pay for something like this.  WOW! :thumb

Usually, I don't buy kitbashes. If I like something I see, I'll take a page out of that person's notebook, then try it for myself. If it comes out good, I'll give credit to the person for the idea.

Now, as far as the comment that kitbashes usually look like s***, it generally depends upon the skill of the individual building the kitbash, the materials and tools used, and the time and effort put into the kitbash. I have seen kitbashes that would embarras Satan, and then I've seen ones that would make all of us in TFans weep tears of joy. As for durability, that also depends upon th materials and techniques used. But generally, a kitbash is going to be structurally weakerand less durable than  a MISB factory-fresh TF. The prototypes Has/Tak comes up with are generally not kid-friendly, and have to be thrown into clay for molding. We kitbashers don't have that luxury, unfortunately.

So, while longwinded, I would have to say that unless I couldn't replicate the results of a particular kitbash myself, or i just like that kitbash far too much to let it go, I would not generally buy one. As for selling mine, In the past, I've often done them for FREE.
