New Don Murphy Q&A

Recommended Posts

Cos, y'know, we kept it a big secret before and instigated a vetting procedure for new members.  :wtf

And Wildling GETS IT.

I just hope they don't base their perception of the TF fandom solely on the people who post on Murphy's board.

I couldn't agree more

And Wildling GETS IT.

Not nearly often enough ;)

I couldn't agree more

I dunno, I'm of the opinion that if you want your voice heard, and you perceive your view to be vehemently different from those on Don's boards, why not post their yourself?

Seems like there's this weird idea that those of us that do post their regularly are in total accord on how the movie should turn out and never have differing views. Duh?

Also seems like people are prepared to complain A LOT that the people posting on the boards are some kind of spokesmen for the fandom and that it's an exclusive club that no-one else can join.

Again, duh?

I post there because I'm interested in the movie and I'm interested in getting across the view that it doesn't have to be a clone of the cartoon to be a good movie.

I don't post there so people can look to me as some kind of spokesman for the fandom. People should be their own spokespeople. If you don't like the views expressed, don't post here Starscreaming about it, go there and post instead.

And if you refuse and make excuss for why you're not posting on Don's boards then you're just opting out of the whole process and don't really have an excuse for whining.

Unless you've been banned for being a jerk of course. That's the only excuse I've known that's applicable.

:tfgrin

I'm not of the mindset that everybody there is Geewun crazy, but 9/10ths of the movie discussion is ridiculous. Hundreds of threads in intense debate on what Alt modes should be? :roll There are far more "important" things (not that any of it is really important), that will make up the film than the Alt modes.

Thje board is barely moderated. Threads with pertinent info or ideas sometimes go into page tangents. My complaint is that the only people that are being "heard" over there are the ones that can stand to sift through the ludicrous amounts of waste.

Being a "spokeman" for the fandom might not be your purpose, but with a couple thousand posts over there, it is true. To Don, you are representing the fandom.

I've posted there. I still do occasionally.

My request was always that if that is going to be "the" board where Don collects fandom opinions about the movie, he should hire somebody to really clean the board up and keep things on point, so that most of the fandom could stomache posting in it and actually reading through the topics.

We all post on message boards like these, because it's not a waste of half our day reading through a single thread  to get to the meat of a topic. If his board mirrored one of them he'd have a hell of a lot more of the fandom over there on a regular basis.

Does Don need tocater to us? Absolutely not. But if he thinks he's getting a valid crossection of the fandom, he's mistaken.

And if you refuse and make excuses for why you're not posting on Don's boards then you're just opting out of the whole process and don't really have an excuse for whining.

Sure you could complain. Here's one...I could have participated on DM's board, because it was such a mess I couldn't stomach it.

It's valid.

Now I know it's gotten a little better since SAJse was modding it, but it's still far from great. The place had been so spamtastic for so long, that most people gave up and haven't gone back, even if it's gotten better.

If Don wants a real cross section of the fandom, he should pay one of you guys to go read up everywhere else and report to him. :tflaugh

Well, I am Chokkei............................ :inheek

Don's always been very outspoken against moderation, so that's the reason you don't really see much. It's a free for all, certainly, but what you're saying is that the people who are sifting through all the crap are the ones representing the fandom.

That, in itself, is true. The suggestion that we're all "geewuners" who are presenting to Don a very clear, set idea of what the fandom wants and what it wants is 1985, isn't.

And thanks for saying I'm a spokesman for you guys, but, tough, I ain't gonna start posting YOUR views. I'm not looking for a full time job thanks. Do it yourself. ;)

Don't ask that of me, any more than I'm asking you to be my representive of the fandom on the toy boards here just cos you have a high post count. You are chatting about something that I have opinions on but can't really be bothered to get involved in. That doesn't make you the spokesman for my generation.

If you're expecting me to be representitive of anything but my own opinions than you're certainly gonna be disappointed. ;)

And to be fair, I'm pretty sure Don doesn't think I'm a representive of anything, he's savvy enough to know that no-one who posts there is speaking for anyone but themselves.

:pfx

I used to post over there during the summer, and I stopped due to the constant rehashing of unnecessary threads and if you didn't have a high post count you were completely ignored.

Don's always been very outspoken against moderation, so that's the reason you don't really see much.

The tradeoff is that it turns into another AICN.com talkback pit.... I'm with the others who have said that they stopped posting b/c of the flood of useless / tangential crap on the board. It gets old once you see the five millionth post about Soundwave's alt mode or mass change.
