Michael Bay On Board To Direct Transformers Film

Recommended Posts

T2 and True Lies *did* suck. :P

:grump :stfu :tftongue

sorry... I just thought Terminator didn't need a sequel, and True Lies was a bit too misogynistic for my taste. :thumb

True Lies wasn't bad ..... if you ignored anything resembling a plot and just fast forwarded to the action.

The thing I notice though is a lot of the criticism of Bay is characterization and plot. Am I right?

The thing is, most of that is due to the script. Take the already mentioned animal cracker scene in Armageddon. I doubt there's a director alive (or dead) that could have shot that scene without it become a cheese-fest. That's not Bay's fault the writer put that horrid scene in there.

I'd be interested to see what the guy can do with a decent script instead of the standard Hollywood "Blow Sh*t Up" script.

And don't forget the Matrix - those guys hadn't done anything before that movie.

And, they should have never done that one! I thought the Matrix SUCKED bigtime! I HATE that movie! Horrible!

You are in a small minority.

I know a LOT of people who didn't like it. I always heard that it was a good movie, so I tried watching it... Boring! I thought sure that something spectacular would happen... So, I watched it all... And, nothing! Absolutely nothing! I was VERY disappointed. It just wasn't AT ALL what I had expected. Just my opinion...

Ripped-off simplistic philosophy + cribbing liberally from the best Jackie Chan/Shaw Brothers/John Woo films + "everyone looks really cool in leather!" + Keanu Reeves as Jesus + TOO MUCH CGI = #1 at the box office, baby!

Seriously, it's the kind of film someone like Harry effing Knowles thinks is "wicked deep." Equilibrium was able to do more impressive action sequences WITHOUT any computer enhancement, though that film also steals clumsily from 1984 and Brave New World. But it does boast a better cast. I love Hugo Weaving but I was never quite able to accept Cowboy Curtis and Ted "Theodore" Logan saving the digital world because the digimon kids had buggered off. Bound was good but I'm a little upset that the brothers responsible for this will be in charge of V for Vendetta. I'd rather not see that dark little tale of human empowerment over oppression be all "Super Kung Fu flashetized."

And I'm not sure being in a minority is something to be ashamed of. 10 million Elvis fans CAN be wrong, especially if it's about Clambake. That was a horrible movie.

They did do a somewhat Tarantino-esque film called Bound, which is pretty good - best part: Gina Gershon and Meg Tilly :drool

They had to do that film to prove to WB that they were worth a sh*t as directors. The Matrix trilogy was what they originally approached the studio with.

(Please note the conspicuous absence of tired Matrix discussion in this post. :thumb)

Loved what Bay did in HEAT. :thumb

I call BS on that. It's blatantly obvious they made the second 2 up on the fly after the first one was a success.

As for the TF movie, I'm surprised it's considered such a hot property. I mean I know it has the nostalgia thing going on, but that doesn't seem like enough to get it the attention it's been getting.
