weren't the original g1 bots the same as real cars from back in the day? did they not have to get licenses in the 80? cuz like how could bumble bee have ever been a volkswagon back then?

Back then, the theory was "It's better to ask forgiveness than permission..." And copyright laws have changed alot, so it's easier for them to get sued for using a liscensed design without the proper permission...

Yeah, back when the original toys were made the laws were nothing like they are now. Back then they could resemble many real life things and nothing was cared or worried over.

But now money-money-money and protecting our resources is the key.

 

Also remember most of the molds are from the 70's, some very early 70's, like Soundwave & Cassettes.
