Interesting Observation on Optimus Prime

Recommended Posts

sorry if im starting a flame war, but why isnt BW prime a prime for?

Some people just don't consider him to be a real Prime. It more of a personal thing.

Ok..now back to the Topic:

I personally like the Blue eyes in the cartoon. The uniform eyes of the first season really worked well. Now outside of the cartoon, I always liked most of the original toys' eyes. Most of the toys' eyes really complimented the 'bots overall color schemes.

With Alternators I like all the Autobots having uniform blue eyes. But I like the non-uniform of the 'Cons...kinda makes them appear more 'Con-ish to me.

Well, so far as the USA toys go, Original Op had yellow eyes, original PM Op had red eyes, AM Op had orange eyes, G2 Op had yellow eyes, Hero Op had clear-blue eyes, Laser Op had clear-blue eyes, Go-Bot Op had silver eyes, MW Op had clear blue eyes, RID Op had orange eyes, Armada Op had gold eyes in regular mode, red in super, bendy Op had yellow eyes, FB Armada Op had red eyes in both modes, E. Op had yellow eyes, mini-E. Op had yellow eyes, Commemorative Series I Op had yellow eyes, Commemorative Series II PM Op had blue eyes in regular mode, red in super-mode, 20th Anniversary Op has metallic blue eyes, and all of the HoC Op's had blue eyes. Basically, Op never got the blue-eye treatment in figure form until his second G2 incarnation in '93/'94, and even then until 20th Anniversary Op and CSII PM Op, the blue eyes were via a light-pipe treatment.

Now, Japan had a few other blue-eyed Optimus Prime's, including Star Convoy, NY Convoy, ChoroQ 01 Convoy, etc. And even then, Star Convoy was the earliest blue-eyed incarnation and he wasn't released 'til '91.

Optimus Primal: Scientist, not a leader, not even a warrior, but was forced into the role as one. Does not carry the Matrix. Therefore he is not a "Prime".

Optimus Prime: Built specifically for battle AND to carry the Matrix.

Yes, in G1 for the most part, the Autobots in general had blue eyes and the Decepticons had red eyes.

Yes, in some Japanese series there are blue eyes.

I said POST RID to present. Every Prime since RID has had yellow/gold eyes (excluding the 'super mode'). Now I know there have been blue and yellow/gold previously but I'm stating that it's apparent that yellow/gold is now the color Optimus receives. The yellow eyes work better to bring the head together. I can honestly say that I can't see any of the recent Optimus toys to have blue eyes. They'd look disgusting.

I think the yellow eyes are there to contrast the blue on the head--it looks better having some bright color amid a sea of blue.

it looks better having some bright color amid a sea of blue.

:pfx

First they were blue, then the Beast Era gave us red for Primal (who is not a Prime), and now, ever since RID, Optimus Prime has had yellow eyes.

Now, I realize the G1 toy had yellow eyes, but on the show, his eyes were blue and that is what I'm going by.

Has yellow become the standard eye colors for Optimus now?  I'm not Starscreaming and trying to say that the eyes should be blue.  I actually think it's pretty neat.  The yellow kind of off-sets the blue and gray of the had, which if he had blue eyes would be blended together too much, ala 20th Prime.

Does anyone else agree with me that the yellow eyes actually make Optimus Prime look better than if he had blue eyes?

I actually like both the Blue and yellow eyes for Prime...but toy wise I just don't think there is enough contrast between the blues like you said, unless you have a figure as big as MPC-01/20 th Prime. And I think you are right as well about yellow becoming the standard color for Prime, but the yellow does look really good.

I did like how in the Dreamwave comics in Vol. 1 of the G1 books Prime had yellow eyes like the original toy. But in the later books they changed his look to look more like the 20th Prime toy blues eyes and all.

Didnt Season One have dinobots with RED eyes?

The Toys and comics yes...The cartoon no...In the cartoon the Dinobots had blue eyes :thumb

(j/k) :tftongue...i'd like it if all of them (primes, botc, cons, etc...) had varied eye colors...A badass prime with red eyes could be cool (Magnus?)

Hmm, altering eye colour for mood would be interesting ( red for anger, blue for calm, etc, ) except that the colourists in the animation would make errors so it would just become a mess.

Blue eyes made Prime somehow more "good" while the yellow eyes he's had recently almost make him look irritated ( or suffering from liver damage ) :tflaugh

I personally like Prime better with the blue eyes as he does in the cartoon. It significantly portrays that character as being good where as red/yellow in most cases portrays evil as it does with the Decepticons. No mistaking the two. I wouldn't mind seeing the toy incarnations with blue eyes though the yellow does a good job standing out against the blue and the gray. I think the blue works really well with 20th OP, and the alts mainly because of the scale where as with smaller figs the blues would blend in and become lost. At least from a distance. Interestingly I'm looking across at Cup and this fig has a gray crown, blue face, and blue eyes. Wonder what it would look like if somebody digibashed yellow eyes on him. The eyes would stand out but would the essence of the character be lost where as with Prime is wasn't. Or was it? :roll
