i have not seen any headmaster ones. I think most of the old protos are in Hasbro vaults. I did see a Wreckgar one once. It was not too much to look at either. Wood and resins. Did come with a letter of authenticity but then again, that is easy enough to fake if you wanted to. I have also seen a few of the Diaclone ones. Mostly at Botcons in the past. There is a guy from Japan who seems to have a few once in a while.

I have seen other prototypes later in the process. As i said before, all the new stuff skips the sculpting stages and goes right to production casting.

Looks alittle messy to me to be authentic.. not exactly sure what that is..

Here's what I don't understand.

I'm hearing terms like "messy" and "melted" and "crapy" and unfinished... and I'm thinking to myself... isnt' that what an unfinished prototype would look like? I mean if its a test shot or an early stage prototype... it wouldn't be made for molding or other production but would perhaps use existing parts to test a concept or show an idea...

I guess my next question then is what is a GOOD example of a prototype? All the pictures I've ever seen look pretty rough... what is the distingusing characteristic that defines a prototype as opposed to a test shot or other early pre-production design?
