I apologize...

I love the die-cast metal feel of Binaltech. I really do. And I thought the people who complained about paint scratching were uncoordinated fools.

Then I got Tracks.

WTF. :tdown

Who designed this? There's like a half millimeter of clearance to extract the legs, supertight pins, joints that really don't let you move the way the instructions tell you, and doors with a funky L-joint that never gets out of the way.

It's paint mangling waiting to happen. Already got problems on the right side where the door overlaps the front fender. There'll be more, except I think I'm never transforming him again. Thank goodness his trunk is plastic or that'd be scratched to hell too....those pegs are killer.

Never had problems with any of the other guys. But Tracks is definitely a strong case for Alternators. Bleargh. I take back everything I say about anti-Binaltechness. What sucks is I'm already so far into collecting them it'd feel weird to switch now.

Oh well, at least I have the horrendous fake-fire hood sticker to show for it.

:thumb welcome to our side

is this the Blue one or Yellow?

I say be careful. If I had BT Tracks I'd lower the fender/Calf joint in robot mode to ensure it doesnt touch that damn door joint. I do that now with my Alt Tracks so I can pose him better.

On my yellow Tracks the paint was starting to come off of the pegs/slats that hold the hood halves together pretty much out of the box.

Alts seem better quality generally in my experience

I only have one BT, Smokescreen. one of my few figs MISB. Didn't want to cover the chrome with fingerprints.

I get BT's simply because I have to order them from overseas anyway, so I might as well spend a little bit more money for the metal...

Mine don't get transformed very often, but I have to say I'm really happy with them and have never had any problem with chipping - mind you, I'm quite fussy about it and take things slowly to avoid it! If you transform them a lot, I can totally see the appeal of Alts - I've got an Alt Smokescreen which used to sit on my desk at work and get messed with on a daily basis, but I don't think the BT's would survive that!

I had a Binaltech Smokescreen out when they first came out. I also had an Alternators one out. I had these out for people to transform them and then make a decision as to which they prefered and how they would continue with their collecting. My Binaltech Smokescreen must have been transformed over 100 times and it has chiped only in a few of the places that is metal on metal, mainly the bottom of the car.

I have had display pieces of all the Binaltech figures and have had many kind of people transform them, collectors to younger kids who are a little more rough with their toys. I find the Alternators ones get more loose after time and many transformations. Like any TOY, the more you use it, the more damaged it will become. That is why they are called toys, they are ment to be played with. Hence the reason it is so hard to find a quality G1 toy that is not chipped. They get played with.

I don't have a huge preferance one way or the other. Smokescreen is better in Binaltech just because of the paint. Sideswipe I think I may have liked the Alternators one better because the hood was just to heavy on the Binaltech and keeped sagging. Streak, Hound, does not make a whole lot of difference. Binaltech is Heavy, that is all I like.

Tracks, it is different to say the least. There are a few things I would have done different, like the FEET. Don't like those at all. Binaltech, Alternators, again, I don't think it makes a whole lot of difference on that one.

Spencer.
