The new Gestalts

Yeah, I guess Hasbro could do dumb things like that, so the combiners would all have the SAME LIMBS for molds...

Yeh it wouldn't have too hard to do something like that, like using one of the copters as Blades of the Protectorbots.

Yep, mix and match just like the G1 incarnations could :)

It works well, right now I'm using SL Votrex (orange helicopter) and SL Brawn (green tank) as substitutes for the legs for Construction Maximus till Wideload and Bonecrusher come out. Since they share sort of the same color hues, so it works out suprisingly well :D

Cool! The combiners are suddenly more appealing to me now. Now someone just needs to make them some real hands and feet. :thumb

But, then Superion Maximus would look TOO different from the G1 namesake, and then people would Starscream over that.

So what if half the limbs are repaints, nothing is stopping you from putting different limbs on different cores. And besides, your own suggestion is basically not a whole lot different than what Hasbro did anyway, and retooling is still quite expensive compared to a repaint. And you yourself said "it would still be more than 9 molds" which basically means more money.

Hasbro basically had a no-win situation. Either they could have put out TWO combiners will all different limbs, fans get wind of a possible third, and Starscream. Or, Hasbro releases three combiners, with half the limbs repaints.

yeah, it'd be more than 9 molds but less than 12. And you could maybe get a fourth combiner out of it, so you recover the 'added' costs there. Besides, you know good and well that if these do halfway well in sales, there'll be at least a couple more combiners to come.

I just say if you gotta half-ass it, half-ass it the right way.

Actually (having given it further thought), There would have to be another new mold in addition to the ones mentioned. For the Air team there would have to be another mold or you would have one A-10, the copter, and then two of the SAME jets.

Personally, I have accepted the fact that the combiners of Energon are the way they are. I'm just happy that the limbs Transform into vehicles AND robots and not colored like Power Rangers toys.

They'll probably find some way to reuse these molds in a different configuration, like possibly they did w/ the Cyclonus remold. Ya know... same limbs w/ a modified deluxe mold in the middle to create a new combiner team.
