Masterpiece Devastator

Recommended Posts

This thread is wild! It is 4 pages long, has been viewed over 2,000 times, and virtually nothing has been accomplished yet! (seriously, no offense guys, but most of the other threads here get viewed that much becuase somebody has a finished product).

This thread should be used as an example to HasTak that we want an Alternators/Binaltech/Masterpiece Gestalt!

EDIT - This thread is now 5 pages long!

While you're at it, I do need your advice on Long haul/ Hook's transform: how i should join them together? I want to avoid the old system, as I consider it notoriously weak. maybe something stronger?

Hooks transformation has me stumped. Having the Devastator head contained with him is the problem. I'm considering having it under the crane section but haven't a clue how to move it to a central location in combined form. Your arm designs earlier in this thread are along the lines of what I was thinking also. The Devastator hands could be concealed in the chest areas that fold out like the Mixmaster design. I've got rough ideas for their transforms as well but I'd like to come up with a Hook design first that would work.

looks awesome man :thumb good luck

Looks great so far! I can tell you're putting a lot of thought into this. Question: Is Long Haul's grill meant to be Devastator's cod piece or his abs?

Long Hauls grill will be Devastators weenie vent. :tflaugh

The abs are the Long Haul leg section.

BTW, just to make it clear to everyone. I'm not building this, just offering ideas as possible directions to take. Just making sure nobodies got high expectations in me.

On another note. Keeping these all to an exact scale with each other will never work. Mixmaster is by far the smallest vehicle of the group and would be way out of proportion.

Actually, a lot has been accomplished: Planning, design brainstorming, materials and parts research, and more brainstorming. :D

But seriously, I don't want to just throw myself into this, and then say "look what I built!!" This project has a LOT riding on it, and I need a lot of input right now. BTW, the beginning of january........

CONSTRUCTION BEGINS.

I already have hook's transform set out: The head will be contained in his chest, with the chest piece bieng the back of devastator's head.

As far as the vehicles being in scale, they will be proportionate to each other. in other words, they will all be the same size: Alternator size.

Okay everyone,

the next post for this will be in three weeks, when I actually begin the constuction of hook and long haul. until then, please feel free to keep posting your suggestions and ideas for MP devastator here, as i will be periodically checking in.

until then, happy holidays everyone!!

I had an idea about Hook's transformation for his Devastator module, but it looks like you've already got it covered. My idea was to have his body fold in a "toe-touching" approach as opposed to the G1 toy's "jack knife" way. But go with what you think is best. I like how you're incorporating Devastator's head into Hook's body.

I'm glad to hear about the 1:24 scale for the Constructicons. I would have cringed if all the vehicles were different scales just for the sake of being able to sell them at the same price or fit on the same size card. Will the Constricticons have open (or accessable) cabs, like other Alternator vehicles have?

The idea you have for the "jack knife" for hook is interesting, but it presents some engineering challenges that i think boggled the original designers of devastator. Good thought though; i'll keep it in mind.

As for keeping them all to scale, i don't want devastator to have mismatched body parts (it's bad enough that he's mismatched already!). but the size differences might actually come into play during construction, giving me more room for devastator's body parts to fold in. We'll see.

Concerning the cabs: i hadn't really given much thought about it, but now that you mention it, i LIKE that idea!! It will be another way to improve upon the original design.

Hey WV one suggestion if you do decide to go w/ Wikkid`s design plan for the legs you could glue together two ball leg joints from a bionicle and hinge them into the top of Long haul`s body w/ a panel covering them till you need them out and use those to connect the legs on and off. Then you`ld simply (ya right it`s a scratch build) put the socket for the ball joint into the chests of Scrapper, and Mix master.
